First of all -
DO NOT GO HUNGRY !
Eat slightly less than you need to maintain your current weight .
Exercise at least twenty minutes every day.
Limit sugary, greasy sweets to just an occasional TASTE.
Include lots of fresh, high fiber food in all of your meals .
Don't "go on a diet" Just make eating healthy the only way you eat from now on .
The weight will come off gradually and stay off.
Find a buddy who will support you in your efforts to live differently--and live more healthy together .
PS I had to add this -after reading some other answers -I am size 16. and trying very hard to change my life style too- there is some good advice here ---Good luck Sweetheart !

I was like that a few years ago. It's more of you wanting to change rather than OK, I need to loose weight. If you are committed. It's rather simple. Log in what you eat and exercise. Start at 30-45 mins a day. Alternate routines. By watching what you eat, you can see what you need to change. The first week or so of exercing is the hardest, but you will develop a pattern and once you see the results, you will want to keep at it. No fad diets etc, it's for the long run. Set a goal weight and when you reach certain %, reward your self. That's what worked for me.

You bite it, you write it.
This is the best thing.
Everything, and I mean everything you put in your mouth you record in your journal and give it a calorie value. No exceptions, and even write down the spoonful of ice cream you ate right out of the freezer....no exceptions.
You will be surprised at where the calories come from. Get a good calorie book and calculate every single thing. Make it a habit. Trust me, you will not grab those raw chocolate chips out of the pantry if you have to write it down.

Second tip is, go outside to walk for a half hour every day. Walk briskly, that's it. Do you wonder why European ladies are so thin? It is because they walk everywhere. OF course in the US we don't have sidewalks and we don't have walker friendly cities like they have in Paris and Rome, so you have to fake it.

OK, there are alot of good answers on here.......heres a few things that I would recommend!

1.) go to the doctor and discuss your goals.

2.) watch what you eat. Write down everything you eat for 2 weeks (espacially your calorie intake)

3.) there are calorie "calculators" online that will tell you approx. how many calories your are burning during any given activities (ex. walking, hiking, swimming etc)

4.) make it a goal to take in slightly less calories than you are burning during your exercise!!

5.) dont expect IMMEDIATE results!!!! Take a "before" picture of yourself (usually nude) and compare it a few weeks later and you SHOULD see your results. This will also help to keep you motivated in your goals. (I do this for my gym workouts...afterall, when you see yourself everyday in the mirror, you wont notice the gradual changes)

6.) DONT GIVE UP!!

7.) Be realistic in your goals, and push yourself to make and overcome them!

8.) Find someone to get in shape with.....a partner can often provide you with a couple things, such as motivation to push yourself a little harder, and sometimes provide that competitiveness (depending on your personality), and it's always nice to have someone give you a pat on the back after a long workout session :)

I wish you luck....actually luck doesnt matter....Stay MOTIVATED!! And I promise you will see results!

Learn to live with it.
or
eat lightly
no bread
no potatoes
no white sugar
and walk at least 2 miles a day briskly.
what are you trying to lose? 25- 50- 100 pounds? Double that number and that's how many weeks it will take at least.
and you have to eat sensibly the REST OF YOU LIFE

Well, first of all, it depends on what you mean by fat. My wife had a weight problem which got much worse after a bout of thyroid cancer. She had lap-band surgery and went from 210 lbs to 135 lbs. She is 5'9" tall. Be advised! You cannot eat like a regular person after getting this procedure. In fact, there are many things that you cannot eat at all.

Drink WATER!!! A lot of water!!!! And run, run, RUN!!!! Do classic sit-ups and push-ups. Actually PARTICIPATE in PE if you go to school. When you feel the need to chomp down try yogurt or apples. Cut down on your soda intake, as all the sugar causes bloating...
And for goodness' sake, don't get 5-6 heaping plates with no veggies to show for except mac and cheese plus a dessert plate at the buffet!

When I tried to loose 25 pounds, I drank ALOT of water throughout the day. Drinking alot of water really helps when cleansing the body, and burning fat.

You also have to exercise and eat as healthy as you can!

Good luck

Consume less calories daily than your body burns.

(Which means, if you begin to exercise, than you can consume more calories...)

Think of your body as a car, it needs gas (food) to perform, the better the fuel you put in your body, the better your body is going to perform. If you put too much fuel in your body, than your body is going to stay the way it is, if you run your body, and put fuel in, than your body will burn the fuel. Same thing with not putting enough fuel in, if you try to run a car with no gas, what happens? Your car dies. If you don't put fuel in your body, your body dies.

I hope this helps. I need to lose weight too, but it'll have to wait until after I have my baby!! Good luck!
