A psychiatrist prescribes medications and has a medical degree. (A M.D.) and has attended med school. A therapist is usually someone who has their masters in social work or mental health. A psychologist is someone who has their masters in psychology, and has sometimes a psychD, which means they are called Dr. A psychologist and a therapist do pretty much the same thing, however, sometimes psychologists are more research than therapy. NEITHER a psychologist or a therapist can prescribe meds or give med advice unless they have attended med school and also have their M.D.

A psychologist does not prescribe medications. You go in and talk about your problems and concerns and they try to give you advice that will help you.

A psychiatrist also listens to your problems and concerns but has the ability to prescribe medications.

A therapist is pretty much the same as a psychologist, they are kind of like a counselor of a sort.

Psychologists and psychiatrists are also therapists in that they provide therapy. A psychiatrist is a doctor; they went to medical school and can prescribe medications. A psychologist is not a doctor, but they have training in the mental health field and provide therapy. They can suggest medications, but a doctor has to prescribe them.

I have suffered from panic disorder, anxiety attacks forever. A therapist and psychologist can talk to you and try to help you, but only a psychiatrist can prescribe medication. In my case that's what it took, medication.

a psychiatrist is someone who treats people with mental illness, a psychologist has a much broader area of expertise, such as counseling, research, teaching, in the areas of human behavior, while a therapist is someone who help heal people with injuries.
