the difference between bi-polar and depression is mania! Ask yourself: do you engage in risky (to the point of deadly) behavior (physical and sexual)? Do you have so much energy that you can stay up for days at a time?
This is mania! Hopefully you just have depression and need to find the right med. Not all meds work for everyone and there are tons of them out there.
Good luck!

How long have you been taking the meds, hon ? sometimes it can take up to 5-6 weeks for medications to start working well, so if it hasn't been that long, please give it time, ok?
If it's been a while, and the meds aren't helping, then talk to the doctor again, and let her know.
There are a lot of resources on line for teens with depression and other mental illness issues...i have found a few websites on depression for you, hon. A couple of them are interactive, and look like places you might meet some other kids who are going through the same problems.
It's important to have SUPPORT. And it's also important to try and find ways to help ourselves.
I have been depressed for ages -- YEARS! I am bipolar and depression is my major symptom... i have made many friends on line with similar issues, and it helps to know i'm not alone.
and about your worry on your diagnosis -- give it time... and let the doctor treat your SYMPTOMS... it's better to treat symptoms than to put a label on ourselves, many times. your diagnosis may change if the doc thinks your depression is a symptom of another illness.
believe me, you don't want to be bipolar... sending hugs.

If you think you are bipolar go see a Psychiatrist, not a Psychologist. You will get better answers. But just because you are moody doesn't mean you are bipolar. Also, there are other depression meds that might work better. Keep on trying though! Don't give up. Good luck! Remember also that there are different types of bipolar disorder.

how long did you take the medication? You see it takes at least 3 weeks for the meds to have any effect. why not start on some hobby that might take your stress off? or do some yoga or do a home spa regularly? these could relieve your stress. slow down on your intake of coke, coffee and tea too. taking some dark chocolates would do you good because it has some calming effects. Oh, and do get some support from family and friends.

MAny times a bi-ploar patient is misdignosed with depression. It is really dangerous because anti depressants are NOT safe for a bi-polar person. You need to get help. You can look in the phone book for crisis center (they generally help for free),Good Luck!!

well you have to ask yourself, "why am I depressed"? if you dont have an answer then it might really be depression. if there are reasons why you are depressed you have to realize things change all the time and you are only 16, what stress do you REALLY have? highschool? stupid "friends" and boys? you probably dont want to hear that but it is the truth, but i won't assume though. i truly believe that when you are suffering it evenutally makes you stronger. just try and stay positive. =]
