Surely more people feel this way. Are there any organized groups or associations that actively "preach" this idea?

I believe that every time a bell rings....someone is ringing a bell.

I've been watching The War on PBS over the last couple weeks. Not ALL desperate men that pray are taking mankind backwards. Sometimes, they are just praying to stay alive.

Religious fanatisism in any form is usually dangerous for someone...a population, a group of people, a way of life...something. There are groups out there that are for removing religious influence from our US political process. But I don't know of any groups that are actively trying to rid the world of religion...that have that as their mission.

First of all, you need to chill.

Don't group all religions in with fanatics.

Why must you feel such a need to find a group or association of people with the exact same beliefs and feelings as you? Diversity of thought and idea is one thing that makes life exciting.

Religious people are not fanatics. Politicians are fanatical when they mix up their selfish motives with religion.

Perverted thoughts about one single religion makes one fanatic, politically. All scriptures preach righteousness. Religion is about the human values. Those who misinterpret the Holy Books become fanatic by egoistic thinking.

If you look through this section you will find that there are many people that share the same sympathies on this matter, they are either Athiest, Buddist, Toaist, or self proclaimed Pagans and Wiccans. These individuals in one form or another oppose the idiotic and backward thinking monotheist, particularly the small minded fundementalist of the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim Faiths.

You will also find partial support from a handful of monothiest, the few individuals that are (1) still capable of thinking for themselves, (2) do not take everything literally in whatever holy book they read from, (3) are secure enough in their faith that they see no need to convert or attack people that think differently.

Unfortunately these individuals are a rare minority scattered among the thousands of temples, churches, and mosque. They go unnoticed, because their ideals of tolerance and acceptance are drowned-out and overshadowed by the ingnorant masses of the rest of the followers.

If you are looking for peace of mind, enlightenment, and non-adversarial support group(s) then look into Buddism. From what I've learned and observed, they seem to be much more tolerant and non-adversarial with people that think differently.

The next tier to choose from would be Taoism, or any nature-based (non-deity) faith system that can be found among the various Pagan and Wiccan groups. I've observed that those that follow a nature-based faith are also fairly tolerant and non-aversarial with those that think differently.

The rest of the polytheistic and minor monotheistic belief systems found through out the various Pagan and Wiccan groups are all adversarial or backward in some form or another. Though they are still less destructive than the three major monotheistic faiths of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

Though I tend to identify with many of the thoughts and ideals of the Athiests, they are just as adversarial and intolerant as the monotheist they oppose. If you hadn't noticed this section is pretty much a battle ground of sniping and there are just as many Athiest on the attack as there are monotheist.

You can find enlightenment and knowledge on your own as an Athiest, but it is difficult to find peace. Good, honorable people can be found in any group regardless of faith, or in the case of Athiest, the lack of faith. The problem with being an Athiest is that if you are a moral person that respects life and freedom you can never be at peace, you will face the conundrum of trying to oppose monotheist, without resorting to the same evil they commit.

How do you oppose groups bent on domination and oppression when the only way to stop their idiocy and evil is to control their destructive nature through laws and actions that are in effect a form of domination and oppression? How can you stop the vast majority of evil monotheist that kill for their beliefs? Logic would dictate that these people pose the most dangerous threat to humanity and civilization. Everyone that is not a fanatical monotheist BELIEVES these lunatics to be dangerous, but a moral Atheist cannot kill them even if they have the strongest logical and most justified reason to take another human life... it would still be killing for a belief.

So, like I said, you can find enlightenment and knowledge as an Athiest, but if you are a moral person you will find no peace of mind with the conundrums they face.

Agnostics are not commited to any faith system and also not against any particular way of thinking. Where Athiest do not believe in gods, spirits, or magic and thiest believe in some or all of these things. Agnostics can for the most part sum up things with "I suppose it's possible" and in effect become fairly tolerant of other beliefs and ways of thinking. Thing is, Agnostics (to my knowledge) do not form groups and exist soley as individuals apart from everyone else. They neither oppose nor support and particular set of beliefs. So, you will not find support from them, but they also won't attack your beliefs either.

EDIT: Considering the amount of anger in your additional post, you'd definately identify with alot of the Athiest on here. For the most part I agree with their line of thinking, but it's a big frustrating headache trying to have rational debate with irrational monotheist. Kind reminds me of that old quote, "I refuse to have a battle of wits, with an unarmed person."

Best of luck to you in finding a path that will give you peace of mind... at least you know monotheism isn't that path.

Good

This is a good thing

Get away from being Religious . . . become spiritual
Get away from fanaticism . . . become more balanced

Watch out !

This is when most people run in the opposite direction, and become the inverse of the VERY thing they object . . . which is the same difference!

If you have been fed up on religious matters, then why are you asking questions regarding religion and spirituality? You ought not to ask question about this matter ans refrain from joining this section. Stop from asking religious matter rather.
