I had heard about ten years ago or more that Jesus was expected to return just after the millenium. How many people are expecting him to return in their own lifetime and if he doesn't return, will you still have as much faith in him while you are laying in your death bed?

For the record, I don't think he will ever return because I'm not religious.

DannyLua: When I'm on my death bed, Jesus will not be on my mind. As I said, I 'm not a religeous person. I don't believe that I will spend eternity anywhere as I'm not even sure if there is such a thing.

Jesus return is in two parts. The first part is supposed to be a total secret (like a thief in the night). If you are not part of them that would be called to the first Resurrection, you will not know it until it is over. The second part of Jesus coming would be judgement. Every person that ever lived on this earth would know and recognise him then. The surest sign for anyone living now to know whether Jesus has come or not is when the great tribulation sets in. During that time, what we saw in Ethiopia and Somalia or Bosnia would be like a toothache. the Bible says there would be tribulation such as has never happened before or will ever happen.
When Jesus ascended into heaven he went in a cloud and would come back the same way according to the angel that spoke to the disciples and it will not be in his corporal body. That is why he will be missed by all except his bride. When he comes in his corporal body, that would be the second part of his coming AND IT WILL BE JUDGEMENT TO THE WORLD. The Bible said the world would burn as an oven or a crematorium if you like.
The way of escape is Jesus Christ.

Jesus or Rama or Krishna or Kaali or Sai, whoever it is or whatever may be the image one loves, will comeback depending upon the intensity of devotion one has. Or the imageless(formless) Allah or Paramaatma can be experienced by constant meditation on the same. It requires patience and full faith. One who does not believe it cannot get such things. Even if a scientist, when trying to invent a new thing should have full faith in what s/he is doing so that the desired results are achieved. This is the psychology of any philosophy. In sanskrit it is quoted as "yadbhaavam tad bhavati" i.e. you get what you contemplate. Hence, if the world consciously and earnestly yearns for the coming of Jesus, it is true to happen as result of enmasse brain waves.

I think Jesus will return because he said he would. When is the question and I don't have the answer. If it's in my lifetime, then so be it. I do believe that a cataclysmic event could herald the return of Jesus.
I've asked myself what would be the reason for a new heaven and earth? If this one were uninhabitable, then a new one would be needed. Or, does that mean this earth will be made anew? Who knows? Only God does.

Jesus will return, when He returns. Even He doesn't know when it will be. The Bible says that not even the angels in heaven know. But when God tells Jesus to go gather His children home, I wanna be ready. If He doesn't return I will still have as much faith in Him as I do now even while laying on my death bed.

Statistically, about 44% of Americans are absolutely or "very" confident that Jesus will return and the world will end within the next 50 years -- not exactly conducive to building a sustainable system of economics or government, when almost half the population is planning on (or even looking FORWARD to) Armageddon....

i am not sure if Jesus will return in my lifetime, that is why Christians are admonished to be ready when He does.
when I am already in my death bed and He has not come yet, then I will be happy knowing that many will be given a chance to change their mind and be saved, before He does.
the question is, when you're on your death bed, what will you be thinking. knowing that you'll have to spend eternity somewhere..

I am always watching and waiting for his return. I have no clue when it will be. But if I should go by death I will then be with Jesus in Heaven. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

Well obviously no one knows when Jesus will return. In the Bible, it says He will come like a thief in the night. But personally, I wouldn't expect Him in my lifetime.

He has already. He gave us signs to tell us of his return and we are certainly living in times Jesus prophesied about. Try reading Matt:6 and 2Tim 3:1-6

Jesus has been expected to return fo the last 2000 years. He himself said he would return in the lifetimes of his disciples. None of this (obvisouly) ever happened. I don't expect him to ever return, and I don't plan to convert on my deathbed, either.
