A few months ago, I saw a fight happen. On my own free will, I went in and did a police report. However, I had a few beers in my truck and the cop asked about that. I told him the truth, and he kept asking who bought the beer. Eventually, he asked if it was one of the men involved in the fight. I said it was, not really thinking. I was ready to go and it seemed like he was forcing me into saying it. I've been thinking about it, and I don't want this guy to get in trouble for something he didn't do. I remember the guy who really did do it, but I don't know his real name. Is there any way I can make my police report void or change it in any way so this guy won't get in trouble for what he didn't do?

If no arrests are made, the report is marked cleared, cleared exceptionally, or unfounded. You can not withdraw a report.

I hate to say it, but I think you are in BIG TROUBLE. There's no way you can change or eradicate the report you've made, and the fact that you lied to a cop is not much in your favor. I gather you are underage for drinking. I don't know what state you live in, but here in Maine underage drinking is taken very seriously.

Yes, simply go to the police station and explain it to them exactly as you have here. You are right. This is something that will go on record for him and will follow him. It's just so wrong on so many levels. Good for you for stepping up to the plate and telling the truth.

It's called 'False Report to Police" and it's a criminal offense.

i don't think you can pull the report,.....but if you have to go to court, you could have a case of amnesia, and can't remember who bought you the beer,.....it would make it hard for the prosecutor to get a conviction,.....

If it makes them money you cannot withdraw it, if it makes them no money you can. Police don't give up stealing money.
