I want to purchase a MacBook Pro laptop (the 15-inch one), but only if Final Cut Pro is already installed on it. Will it automatically be installed on the computer or will I have to go out, and buy a Final Cut Pro installation CD?

Final Cut Pro is not installed on the MacBook Pro. But, if you want it, the current version is only available as part of Final Cut Studio 2 which runs $1299.00.

You can, however, buy any Mac with Final Cut Express preloaded on the computer for an additional $299. FCE is not a bad program if you are not a professional editor. It differs in some categories like HDV support only, limited color correction, keyframing only in motion attributes and not filters, a lack of batch capturing or displaying your time code and FCE won't use After Effects plug-ins.

Basically, you have to decide what you want to edit and who your audience is. When I put Final Cut Studio Pro on my Mac it took about 10 minutes and I was up and editing. I also have FCE on some of my old iBooks and it works just as well for some of my needs.

You have to buy it for about $800 from Apple which is a steal if you do commercial work.

OS X includes Garage Band, iDVD and iMovie which may be adequate for your needs. Go to an Apple store and give them a try before you buy.

TIP: There is nothing in the Windows world like Final Cut Pro.

This is a lot to explain over the internet. Just google it. Or better yet make an appointment at the apple store (or just go to one) and they will explain all of it to you.

It's not part of the OS. You have to buy it separately. Any one you buy it from will be glad to install it though (but not for free).

Sadly, it's not.
