Rumor says, that Sony loses around 200$ on each 60GB console. The reason why they do it is that Sony'll get its money back from games. Sony'd done the same thing with PS2 in the beginning. I'll say 60GB production costs are around 700-800$. Now Sony reduces those costs by removing backwards compatibility chip (Emotion Engine - Sony PS2) from american 60GB version. European version didn't have that from the beginning. Also Sony produces Cell chip using cheaper technologies now. Don't know about Microsoft's XBOX 360, but judging their 33% returns due to manufacturing faults, cheaper technologies and not so advanced technologies - MUCH less.

@Dude:
Please don't post that crap here, they are generally one of the most popular ways of getting spam, and rarely ever work.. If you want a Playstation 3, then go buy one! Don't spend your life trying to get one for free cos a website says you can! Anyone can make a website that says practically everything, I can make a website that says "Pigs can eat fish and now fly while making hamburgers", just cos i say that, doesn't mean its true! See my point? Get The drift?
