my moms cat does the same thing! she need a allergy shot every month from the vet. Right at day 30 she starts chewing again is is so uncomfortable. I understand your situation with money, believe me! try the humane society animal clinic, they are usually cheaper or try a pet loving relative(i have done that with my mom often!). good luck to u and you babies!

OK, first of all what flea meds did you use? Hopefully your vet told you about how store-bought ones don't work. You need to stick with veterinary ones like Frontline.

It certainly sounds like a flea allergy, which means you have to keep your cat 100% flea free or she will suffer. This means you MUST put flea treatment on her every month religiously - you can't just wait until she has fleas again or she'll already be suffering. You also need to get some housespray from your vets as this is where 95% of the fleas are living.

Didn't your vet tell you all this? You need to implement a rigorous flea treatment regime for your cat as even 1 flea bite can make her crazy.

If you have a college or university near you, sometimes they have free or reduced fees. You would need to call them first. Sounds like mange or some other yeast or bacterial infection the cat got on her skin.
Did the Vet recommend shampooing her with a prescription shampoo? If it is a skin condition, this would help the itching and the infection from spreading.
Also, I don;'t know which flea preventative you are using, but some cats are allergic to some of them. I would stop using the one you are using. Ask the Vet over the phone which one they recommend. This could be the problem in itself.

Sounds to me like an allergic reaction to something. If it isn't taken care of your cat will continue to lick and scratch herself until the hair is gone and the flesh wont heal. Many times I would see owners bring in their animals to us to late to save the loss of hair or the nasty flesh, but all in all...getting the allergy shot should do the trick to stop the gnawing and scratching of the infected areas. Please seek treatment right away. Depending on where you live there are possibly low cost clinics to help you. The best advice I can give is to call a local Humane Society and ask them because they would quite possibly know more. Since the H.S.'s don't want an over population of animals they have more insight to help that is available. Hope this helps, and good luck.

I once had a puppy with the same symptoms, and she had what is called the "mange." The animal can become really sick if this isn't treated, and I know a vet is expensive. Call around to different vets to get some price checks.
