"Cardio" in every-day fitness parlance refers to any type of aerobic exercise. Any exercise where you increase your heartbeat to a certain range and keep it there for a minimum of 30 minutes. The rule of thumb is that you should increase your heart rate and exercise at 60-80% of its max. If you exercise above 80 or 85%, you're beginning to train "anaerobically" (meaning "without air") and the health benefits are only marginally increased.
Find out your maximum heart rate (for your age, height and weight) and then figure out say 70% of that. Then begin to exercise and after 5 mins, count your heart beats and see whether that amounts to 70% . Do it on a beat-per-minute basis. Then exercise a little harder and once you've reached 70%, continue for about 30 mins... that's basically "cardio."

Cardio is when you get your heart rate up to a level where your body is burning fat. You should do 20-30 minutes of a cardio workout every day for a healthy heart.

Depending on the kind of cardio, you can defnitely work your abs. I run, and it's amazing how good that is for your abs! Swimming is also good (especially if you do flipturns).

If you add strength training to your workout routine, you will also earn some nice abs. Talk to someone at the gym for tips, they can tell you which machines are the best!

Cardio is a slang term (in the wold of exercise and fitness) that basically means the workout is intense and focuses on strengthening the stamina of the cardiovascular system (the heart, the lungs, etc.).
There are many types of cardio exercises...running, swimming, kickboxing, step aerobics, in-line skating, etc.
My gym offers a class called TurboKick. It's high-intensity kickboxing and it's a lot of fun. It totally burns out your arms, legs and core. You might want to see if you can find a video with it. (just FYI- it's different from the Billy Blanks routines).

Good luck!

Any exercise that gets your heart pumping and body working, is cardio (walking briskly, jogging, bicycling, aerobics, spinning, swimming, etc). Cardio exercise is good for burning fat/calories.

If you want to tone muscles, you need strength training and do exercises focused on the area you want to tone/strengthen (such as crunches for abs). To find exercises for a particular body area, do a search online (e.g., ab exercises or leg exercises).

Cardio is exercise that gets your heart beating, like running or doind jumping jacks. I'm not an expert on exercise but I don't think cardio will help with your abs, for that you'll have to do crunches or something.

as mentioned it means heart (latin) and for workouts it means that your heartrate has to be over 60% of your max heartrate to be a cardio workout. if its under 60% then its fatburn workout. a cardio training is good to burn cals and to improve strength(stamina) and metabolism. a good all-rounder is running, swimming, cycling, rowing etc
