Five men:

1. Bob Brill, my older lover when I was in college.
2. Any of the 3 or 4 best professors in the Philosophy Department; I won't waste time trying to decide which one.
3. Chuck Tasin, a dear old friend who is gay, and who taught me to be a f@g hag.
4. Steven Joel Holzman, my lover and husband for over 20 years.
5. Richard M., known to many of you here.

Five women:

1. Miss Tashner, a "retired" teacher who substituted in our school part-time, and made me wish I'd been born sooner so she could have been my teacher full time.
2. Stella Calvert, my old friend and going wild buddy from my science fiction fandom days.
3. Tezra Reitan, my old friend and going wild buddy from my pagan/witchy days.
4. Lexi Spann, who became my surrogate daughter when My Steve committed suicide.
5. Kate Lovelady, the leader of the Ethical Society of St. Louis.

Think I can come up with 5 for both, not sure what you're trying to get across here or if it is really a valid point. Many people are touched/influenced by a single person, at least to a significant level. That influence is most likely to be the same sex.

OK, since you are trying to prove a point (excuse me if I'm wrong here), let me come up with some women for you:

1. Mother Theresa - her life in service, she was humble yet passionate
2. Mother Amma - a great mystic, enlightened soul and at the same time, an immenseley practical woman, the same as Mother Theresa.
3. St. Theresa of Avila - one of the greatest mystics of our times
4. Montserrat Caballe - the best soprano ... ever!
5. And lately, someone called Gnostic here on RS, thanks to whom a great wave of white light has swept over this community, bringing a change in perspective to many.

I could go on and on ... but you only asked for five, so ...

Everyone you meet offers a positive impact. Everyone you meet can teach you about yourself if you are able to learn. If you are harmed by a person it is you alone that decides to either grow your anger and dispare or you can grow your forgiveness and understanding. Positive or negative impact is your choice. Once you can control how you are impacted by good and bad then you can move to not being impacted by either and all is seen as one expression of the way.

I could name a bunch more than 5 of each - not including family members. Several would be college professors I am indebted to, some great friends I've met in my martial arts training, pastors I've had the privilage of being taught by - which would lead me to the one that will get the most thumbs down, Jesus Christ most of all. (And yes, I know Him)

I can name a hundred women who have made a negative impact on my life, at least. And that many men who have made a positive impact on it.

KR - Senior pastor at my church, has grown church over the years
PT - Great teacher, truly spurred on deep thought and analysis

How about 2 men and three women?
Two very good friends, my wife, and two women who have helped me at work.

Umm....well.....no...never...and my family is so far from being a positive impact on my life.I'd probably just go with my friends as a 50-50.
