Tarot cards are no more effective than cold reading.

As someone who read tarot cards professionally, they are totally bunk. I can also tell you that most tarot "how to" books give advice that sounds exactly like cold reading.
Read about cold reading, don't fall for the traps, and see how accurate your readings are.

heres the thing with tarot cards: you see what youre meant to see. They can be like a mirror for your own subconcious and teach you a great deal about yourself. the true power of the cards is not in reading them however, it is in understanding the path the fool takes from the begining of his journey til the end when he becomes the world. the major arcana spell out a spiritual path from begining to end and all the steps on the way. the minor arcana are the different aspects of the first 10 steps, which can be seen as the first octave of the spiritual ladder. the court cards represent different positions a person can hold in your life or the positions which you hold for others. dont go into the cards expecting to see ghosts or spirits and see crazy visions. of course, this could happen, but its not cause of the cards. the cards are a catalyist for understanding. i suggest getting a good book to go along with the cards and read it all the way though before you try to start reading. if you want to get in touch with your spiritual side, then thats all it takes. the intention is enough, the rest is bonus! just have fun :)

I agree with arcanum70's response. You should research before jumping into this. Personally, I don't use the tarot for Fortune Telling... I use them to help me focus more on the problem/situation I am in and to see what other possible paths I can take. They don't tell you the future in that sense, they only offer insight to yourself... maybe show you something you hadn't thought of before. I have found many people who begin using Tarot have certain expectations. They see on TV and hear about all of these "psychics" who use the Tarot Cards - by the way, psychics don't need cards - expect the cards to give them specific information or to tell them "you will find love in the near future" and then get upset when the cards don't give them what they want. It's another straw man argument when it comes to this, so don't set any expectations in stone. Research the cards and then make sure you know what it is you want out of this before getting into it. Now, for the "cold read"... they do have a point, many "psychics" use this. But as I said, "psychics" don't need Tarot Cards..... And if you ask, they have to tell you that it is for Entertainment Purposes Only. (This is for psychics on TV or one's you see in the flea markets, etc). Those who claim to do it professionally and then also claim to use the "cold read" are the frauds...

There is a very good reason why so many communities across the U.S. have laws that discourage tarot card readers and other so-called "fortune-tellers" from setting up shop in their communities: it's called FRAUD. This kind of sick, slick manipulation of the poor and uneducated deserves to earn the practitioner a one-way ticket to state prison.
As such, tarot card reading is one of the oldest cons in the history of human civilization. No one in their right mind would ever take it seriously, much less pay anyone for such a "performance."

Sweetie, if you want to get in touch with your spiritual self, look into the word of God, it is like a mirror, and you might find the reflection of Jesus in it, and see the beauty of who you really are, precious in His sight. I have the Holy Ghost and Power, and no other ghost can compare. You might want to give that a whirl. It comes with Love, Peace and Joy. Because the Kingdom of God is Righteousness, Peace and Joy, in the Holy Ghost. Try that instead!

The accuracy of your readings will have a lot to do with your affinity with the deck you use. For as many people out there there are that many preferred decks. I would suggest doing some research not only on the history of the tarot, but also checking out the different decks available.
I myself prefer the Dragon Tarot.

I have found them a great tool to open up my own intuition, and really have helped me in developing my spirituality.
I think it's great! Go for it, follow where your heart/soul leads. Work with and play with the cards.
Just do it!

I think we all have our own psychic gifts. One way to channel them is to use a tool, like the cards. It takes a bit of studying and a bit of psychic gift to clearly understand them. They are a wonderful tool, but that's all they are. Like a hammer, in and of itself it is not good or bad, nor does it necessarily perform as it should. It all depends on who is using it, and what they have in order to use it well.
Peace
