Don't, not yet anyway, there are a lot of complaints out right now how some older (and some current) software will just not work with Vista. Vista will also bog down your computer making it run slower, unless you got a new PC or one recently built really fast it will slow it down. The only great thing about vistia is its security but for the time being if you are concerned with that just use 3rd party software that does the same thing, most are free.

Hi, yeah go ahead and get Vista. We have one computer in home running Vista and its awesome. The one I am using currently has Xp and it sucks. Here is what u get with Windows Vista. You get better desktop effects and a better appearance. You get DirectX 10 for latest games and all new pc games are Vista only. Vista is a lot more stable and secure. Vista has some of the security features which are present in the Linux and Unix system such as User account control. This is one of the most important features to stop spread of viruses and at last Windows has got it. All new hardware and software coming out is designed for Microsoft Windows Vista. Also again Windows Vista is the latest operating system where as Windows Xp is going to be six years old.
Good Luck!

Do you remember the time when XP was launched?
Same issue was brought out..what is better XP or 98/2000
But the obvious answer is XP..
It is just evolution as natural world.
Vista is destined to be major Operating system within 3-4 years...
but when I say 3-4 years I mean that , it is not yet best for everyone..
In next years all new softwares will be launched for Vista.
New support will be provided for Vista..
Remember , a computer is nothing without the software and data on it.
Same is the case with Operating Systems. If you dont have much support for your OS then it is not yet beneficial for you.
And to agony of most of the economical PC users...Vista needs a heavy hardware.
Atleast 512MB ram, 10GB+ space for better versions and many many more upgrades..
currently all softwares run smoothly on XP, so my suggestion is until important softwares run satisfactorily on Xp you dont go for Vista...
But it is sure to be next legendary bit in MS operating system line...

Don't unless you have:
2 gb of ddr2 at 800 or better
2.5 ghz or better
a video card that supports direct x 9 with 256 mb or better
If you have all that I still wouldn't recommend it for a main operating system. I just dislike it in general for the system resource hog that it is. If you don't have at least what is above then you can kiss all your games good bye. See vista takes about 512mb of ram just to run alone (with no programs like anti-virus running). xp is only 256 mb alone. So I still run xp even though I have the vista cd... A friend bought me a copy just because it was buy 1 get 1 free at his work.

Depends what you are planning to do.
I have both and use both a lot, both have advantages and disadvantages.
There is a lot of bad press about Vista going around but I have yet to experience anything wrong with it. All my games play, all my applications work.
The GUI is stunning in Vista, however the security is a little OTT, with it asking you to do, check, and allow things to run every time.
You also need a fast computer for it to run (Although mine runs fine on a P42.66ghz w/ 768RAM)
XP again is good with few problems if you only plan to do 'normal' computer activities.
I'd say take a look around, read the pros and cons (but ignore BS) and make your own choice.
