Interupting is very rude unless it is very important.

Basis,
I only consider it rude if I am being interupted. That said - I make it a point NOT to interupt others because of my personal thoughts on the matter.

Best to you!

Personally, I consider it rude, but some people see it as multi-tasking too. I let the other person finish what they're saying before adding my own comment.

There are some people who (myself included) can also listen to 2 or 3 conversations at once and still effectively communicate in each of them simultaneously. So, while it is rude, I can deal with it...although I prefer one conversation at a time whenever possible.

If it isn't urgent like knowing where the bathroom is when you have to go real bad or if it's an emergency situation where you have to call 911, then it is impolite. If you are standing in line and you see the cashier/customer service rep chatting with another customer for a very long time and the service rep is just not productive and chatting away, then it is acceptable to interrupt politely saying "Excuse me. I don't mind to interrupt you but we've been standing in line for awhile."
Or if you are standing in line and there are some people in front or behind you and they are cussing or using profanity around your small child, then it is acceptable to interrupt them to tone it down a bit.
It all depends on the situation.

If the interruption isn't of an urgent nature, then it is considered by most to be rude.

Of course, unless it is an actual emergency. And not the sort of emergency where you think what you have to say is more important than someone else, but a real emergency--

I get so angry when someone interrupts me, I often just completely ignore the person and leave the conversation. My biggest pet peeve.
