2 months ago I had an operation on an arthritic joint at base of my thumb.. Since then my hand - fingers & wrist have been very stiff, swollen & painful. I have hand therapy each week, but the swelling doesn't seem to go down,
Several times each day I massage the hand, use alternative hot / cold water dips, use wax therapy, exercise all finger joints & wrist. Use a soft squeezy ball. I use finger splints several times a day. I also wear a pressure glove which I gather is supposed to help reduce swelling. I can now move my fingers into a partial fist, but the whole hand is still very painful, swollen & not able to carry anything. Any further advice appreciated for relief of this condition.

Why are your precious hands so stiff and swollen in the morning? In most cases this will indicate a lack of adequate circulation to the cells and tissues. There are numerous reasons for your hands to swell but the main thing is to reduce the inflammation and increase the circulation again.

Far Infrared Rays emitted from Prolotex™ gloves does increase the micro circulation and helps to reduce the puffy swollen hands joints, fingers, and wrists. Essential blood flow is improved allowing fresh nutrients and oxygen to reach and rejuvenate the afflicted areas of your swollen hands.

FIR also has the unique ability to facilitate the breakdown and release of toxins stored in the cells. What a difference this can make. Just by wearing these surprisingly soft gloves while you're sleeping, you can help reduce the swelling in your joints and hands

We recommend wearing Prolotex™ far infrared gloves for treating swollen hands. The FIR emitted from the gloves helps to reduce inflammation. Not only are these little "Miracle Gloves" soft and flexible but they are non toxic so can be safely used by people with sensitive skin.

Have you been checked for arthritis.? You can use pain relieving gel to massage.

It's not really a problem - it's just that your hands are down towards the ground and gravity is pulling fluids from your arms into your hands. That's all. One other note, as a contributor, you might be eating too much sodium or salt, or even MSG - all of which causes us to retain water.

The operation has cause trauma to the surrounding tissue and this will take time to fully reduce.

I had an operation on my thumb and was advised it could take up to a year for the swelling to disappear.
