Human nature is part of it. I think we have an innate capacity for sympathy and empathy. These mix with society training to give us a conscience.

The problem is that nature alone doesn't provide a moral authority to which we owe an allegiance. If sympathy and empathy and conscience are just feelings, what authority do they have over us? Why ought we obey them? No reason I can think of.

We can hone or dull our feelings. We can turn our eyes away from the beggar and after awhile, we won't even see the beggar. Without a standard that we ourselves cannot alter, we will change the standard to fit our behavior. Our human nature has a tremendous capacity for self deception and we can rationalize any thing. Almost everyone, even criminals planning their next crime, think themselves to be basically good.

From human nature? you mean...what a baby is born with? Where the first words are "No" and "mine"..and then I have to teach "share"? That human nature? And from a heart that only knows "no-mine" we are to construct a system of morals that puts others before self? Not logical.

I derive my morals, from the Law...I receive the Law, from the One who Created the Law.

Just look at little children...it's not in our nature to be selfless, compassionate, caring and kind. (woah! Kind? yeah....ask all those who were just a little "different" how much kindness they received when they were in the first grade).

sure am glad we don't get our morals from our own human nature.

Divine nature. The natural man is an enemy to God and has been so since the fall of Adam and will be forever and ever until he puts off the natural man and yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit and becomes reborn as a Saint.

All men must be born again of the Spirit.

My moral compass comes from God Himself. If I depended on human nature, I would be acting like an animal with no respect for others and only living for myself and my own gratification. Thats why the world is in the mess its in today.

Human nature is corrupted, both good and bad can come from it. But the Holy Spirit leads us to only that which is good.
