Given my poor memory, I will try to explain this as best as I can from what I remember from a class I took on the subject.
Sufism is Islamic mysticism. They are much like Zen Buddhists in that they use verse recantation as well as other methods like dance to achieve a "closeness" with Allah. For example, the famed Whirling Dervishes spin around while reciting Islamic verses to achieve a state of euphoria (essentially being very dizzy, but it is more like a 'focused drunkenness') to bring them closer to Allah.
They are known for producing some of the most beautiful Islamic poetry, and one man in particular (who's name escapes me) is famed for this in particular. If I remember correctly the very foundation of Sufism is, in part, due to his poetry and teaching.
That's really all I can remember off the top of my head. I hope it helps. I do suggest that you check the Wikipedia article, there is some useful information in there, but most of it is boring general information.
