the compresor has the belt on it and it turns nice and quiet but doesn't engage.

The system is most likely empty. You'll need to get it serviced.

WHAT IS TURNING IS NOT THE COMPRESSOR BUT RATHER THE COMPRESSOR CLUTCH.

EITHER THE SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY EMPTY OR THERE IS SOME ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

TRY FINDING AN INDEPENDENT SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR A CHAIN STORE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE FINDINGS AND THE SERVICE.

LEAVE IT THERE WITH THEM SO THAT THEY CAN FIND THE PROBLEM FOR YOU, IT WILL BE A LOT BETTER THAN JUST REPLACING PART AFTER PART AND NOT DOING ANY GOOD.

First try charging the system and if that doesn't work take in but a lot of times they just need more freon.

it sounds as if the relay to engage the compressor is not functioning.check fuses and wiring.do also check the fluid and pressure test.
