okay so today i started going back to school after a long leave of absence. so after school i went straight home because my mom had texted message me telling me that she put the puppy out because my sister and her baby was over. (mater is a biter) and i always walk my puppy about 10pm and it was 10:15 so as i was pulling up at my house i notice that my back yard gate was wide OPEN!! at first i was worried that he might have ran away... but then i thought that maybe my mom went walking with him... so i open the living room door and i see my mom and everyone watching tv! i asked her where Mater (puppy) was and she said she didnt know!! that he should be outside. so i start yelling (not directly ay my mom) telling my mom that the gate is open and i started to freak out!!

then i go look at my back yard and NOTHING!!! i didnt see him!!

so as i am running towards the open gate i see MATER!! he was laying down right by ther open gate!? huh?!

WHY DIDNT HE LEAVE??

Because he is never supposed to leave. Most dogs learn very quickly where they are supposed to go and where they are not supposed to go. Even if you don't take the time or effort to train them in this respect, they can pick it up themselves.

Oh, and I don't know who left your backyard gate open.

maybe he did.. and decided it wasn't worth it and came back.. maybe there was nothing interesting for him .. (well, more interesting than the people in his house).. I'd watch the gate though.. and maybe buy a padlock for it.. (when the guy comes by to read our meters he generally leaves the gate open so, if he has to ask us to open it.. or if he has to open the lock that has a key still in it.. he closes it)

Ok so this was really a bit long but in answer to your question basically not all dogs will stray...Mater is content with his surroundings & hence happy to stay where he knows he belongs & loves...be happy

mater is still a pup. he still is afraid to go out of his comfort zone. BTW keep your question simple.
