Your body always needs protein to rebuild structures and for muscle function. To lose weight you should cut out saturated fats and just slowly decrease the total amount of food you consume while maintaining a good balance of all the essential nutrients. You should also make sure that you get regular exercise but if you are sedentary now, don't just start into an aggressive workout scheme make your changes slowly.

Protien builds muscle, muscle burns fat. Muscle weighs more than fat, so you might actually gain a little weight. However, a little muscle looks better than something that wiggles over low rise jeans. Not to mention healthier. If you don't go overboard on the weight machines, you'll just end up looking toned and not flabbly. Definately need protien, but good carbs are a must as well. Besides, if you stick to pure protien, you will have to take a lot of laxatives and stool softeners. You might want to up your intake of fiber. Fiber moves things out, fills you up, and blocks calorie absorption. I lost 40 pounds on a high fiber, high protien diet, with moderate excercise, and only good carbs. Whole wheat bread, brown rice. Stick to things that are brown, not white. Flax seed meal, and blueberries are very helpful.
Also, try distilled water, organic lemon juice, organic maple syrup and cayenne pepper. Lemon juice cleanses your liver which is what metabolises fat. Maple syrup keeps your muscles from depleting if you lose a lot of weight at once(only the real stuff, not Aunt Jemima), and cayenne shoots your metabolism thru the roof. If you add it right before you drink it, you can't even tell it's in there.

To be blunt, yes and no. If you don't intake protien, you will lose muscle weight because your muscles need protien in order to regenerate, heal, and do their jobs.
You might gain FAT because your muscles are weakened from the lack of protien so they can not burn the fat. Anything you put in to your body, Carbs or Fats, will be placed in your fat reserves by your body because you wont have the muscles to utilize those nutrients. Your hair will likely also fall out and your nails will grow to be very brittle and damaged. This is because they are both made primarily of protien.
There's also a possibility that you may die, because again, protiens are VERY important to your body.
Now the question is, WHY do you think cutting out protein as a means to lose weight is a good idea? Are you... dumb? Geniuinely sincere question, because only an idiot would think of it as a possibly good way to lose weight.

Yes. Calories are calories. If you eat less calories than your body needs, you will lose weight, period.
But on a more complex note, protein is needed to build muscle. So, you might lose some muscle tone in the process. And since building muscle is one of the best ways to get rid of fat (complicated process but it is), it may pay to give yourself an extra few grams of protein here and there to make sure you don't lose any muscle tone, if anything.
If you're eating 50 grams of protein per day, I'd say you'll be fine. Some people will try and tell you to eat a lot more than that (and you should if you want to gain muscle), but that will be MORE than enough to keep the muscle tone you have.

Yes you will lose weight - in the form of muscle tissue. Soon you will be a 90 lb. weakling who needs assistance to get up go potty. Eat a balanced diet with a mild reduction in calorie intake and increase your physical activity a bit. That is the only sensible way to lose weight.
