To know him, to love him, and to be happy with him in the next life.
In His infinite goodness, God could not keep all to Himself the happiness of existence He enjoyed in heaven. Just as we may love our pets very much, cats and dogs are just not able to share with us the happiness we feel from music and sunsets and Super Bowls. Only our children can do that. This is why God had to create us as His true children. But complete free will is the essence of His nature. So we, His true children, also had to have complete free will, only without the infinite power and wisdom. That makes things difficult. That makes it possible and even likely for us to refuse to accept God's authority

This is the beginning of what a person does when they start a course using reasoning and logic to understand the story of their chosen "God" or "Gods".The next steps you should take would be to study other religions and what they say about "God" as well as "Gods".Trace religion to its roots. The more you think about it the more it doesn't make any real sense. The only logical conclusion a rational person can come up with is that the idea of "God" or "Gods" is a man made creation to explain the unknown at a time when there was very little understanding, if any, as to how things really work.
The logical conclusion is that man created God.Or rather the idea of a God.Why?Because man needed something to believe in that was greater then mankind and who all things unexplained could be attributed for.

To understand this you must look at the Bible as a whole. You must see it for what it is, and that is God's love letter to you.
If we see the Bible like this, we can go back to the very beginning and see why we were created:
3:8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. 3:9 But the LORD God called to the man, "Where are you?" (NIV Genesis 3.8-9)
This is the story of the fall in Genesis. God created Adam and Eve because he enjoyed being with them. He came looking for them but they had sinned so the face to face relationship was lost. This is why Jesus had to come and "seek and save that which was lost".
It is the relationship with you that God wants back. That is why you were created. God wants to be intimately close to you. This is the story of the Bible and the story of why you were made.

A happily married couple who are secure financially, emotionally, mentally (i.e., generally whole) want to have children because they want to love and raise them, not to use them for child labor. Ideal parents also expect the children to respect and obey them for the good of the children, not for selfish reasons.
God knows the best way we’re blessed. Fearing Him gives us a healthy sense of respect for God so that we’ll take Him seriously for our own safety, protection and every other good thing. Praising Him releases and protects us from fear and all that the Devil throws at us. Doing His will feeds us and blesses others. But irrespective of it all, isn't God WORTHY TO BE PRAISED since He is God?!!!

God wanted companions that were in His image. Fearing God don't mean that people must be afraid of Him it means we worship and respect God. By the time His deciples were alive sin was rampid everywhere. God never said we must worship Him, He gives us a choice. He never made us robots, but rather with a heart to choose. He came to this earth to live a life like ours. He died a death that we deserve so that we could live a life like He deserves. No God is not selfish but He is a jealous God, as stated in the ten commandments. I as for one chose to love, worship and fear Him, because I know that loving Jesus is the only way to go to heaven! We were created because God is love! Hey our parents might not have "needed" us but we are sort of in their image, and they love us. That is simular if not the same to why God created us. That is from the stand point of God being a heavenly FATHER.
I hope this helps.

ah, the age old question....
Your right, He doesn't need us. We need Him. He created us to need Him, to worship Him. Everyone worships something, whether it is God, nature, themselves, their TiVo, whatever, it is intrinsic to the fabric of our being. Remember, "fear" is the beginning of wisdom (who doesn't want that?) praise belongs to Him alone, and His will brings perfect peace (it's our will that causes problems). He did create us in His image, but a healthy dose of disobedience messed that up. I don't understand why people question this. If God offers you perfect peace and eternal life in exchange for 70-80 years of earthly obedience to Him, what's the prob? I would take that over the alternative anyday.

a couple of answers could be applied here
the brained controlled religion based answer because the thing of love and so forth
the science god does not exist and we are the result of many years of experimentation on the great quest for survival
mine well i do not question the existence of a greater power but if its the Abrahamic explanation that most ppl feed on i do but the answer
well not only is this great power full of it be it **** or love "it" (not being s/he or both or what ever) needed to prove something to it self so it could have something less than it self to "love" or "control" (what ever your thoughts are) so it could be what it is what is something if there is nothing to define it
there might be many other reasons but those are my thoughts lates

A little crisis of faith, eh? Take my advice and save yourself a lot of grief. Just believe God. Have faith in God. God is good and holy and of infinite patience and mercy. It is right to fear and to worship and praise him. It adds up big time. Repent of your unbelief and conforming to this world. Renew your mind by feeding on the Word of God. Quit leaning on your errant understanding, and put your trust in the Lord.

Only one God - can you imagine how incredibly lonely He must feel? So He made Himself a Son and created angels and human souls for companionship. Wouldn't you if you were God. Or would you prefer to stroll through eternity all alone?

Hi! Well, I believe God created us because He is love. It's true that He doesn't need anything, but love is something that, by its very nature, seeks to benefit others. In this case, God's love moved Him to create beings whom He could share His love with, not because He needed to, but simply because of His goodness. He made us to commune with Him in a loving relationship, but our sinfulness messed things up. =)
