You have a point.

Actually a really really good point.

Many science teachers in schools don't even come close to cutting the grade, and are doing their jobs because they wouldn't make it in any serious institution or company.

Only a small number actually have a science degree, rather than a teaching degree, and of those, fewer still have conducted any scientific research.

As such they present science to students as a set of rules, to answer questions and pass exams rather than to teach it for what it is. Which is a set of ideas developed and tested by people trying to better understand the amazing universe we will in.

Now Im not advocating starting your science less, preacher style, with "and in 1600 Newton Said"

but giving kids some hands on following in the footsteps exploration, inspiration and curiosity...now that..that would change things.

That isn't just about Christians understanding science, it is about everyone understanding science, which considering most every child in our schools spends a good part of their week studying it - might just be a good thing.

Oh, and yeah, I am speaking from personal experience.

Science is not by nature emotional unless you go to the unpure sciences but it does need some sales and marketing
for it's own good and for the benefit of the people in general .
Emotion is not always bad it can be guided by logic.

How can science be presented in an emotional way?

Why would you need to use your emotions to understand science? Most christians are unwilling to accept science when it contradicts what they believe.

You mean televised, on stage, in front of a cast of thousands with a text thumping speech and plenty of "Praise Darwins."

Interesting idea. Evangelical Evolution, Born Again Biology, Astronomical Revivalism.

I think I would prefer a more Catholic approach, with incense, monks chanting formulai, a choir singing the periodic table and a long sermon on Botany in Latin.

I think science teaching needs to present the ideas behind the facts a bit better to start with. Lets face it, the way most things are taught they are as boring as they can possibly be.

Twilight says it really well.

Quite arrogant of you to assume you know more about science then other christians. Would you like to tell us what science classes you have taken and what grades you have gotten.

This christian has gotten A's in college biochem, microbiology, anatomy, physiology, physics, chemistry and biology.

I think I understand just a little bit about science.

Religion and science dont have to contradict each other.

End of the day science uses Logic not Rhetoric. and Rhetoric always has the mass of men by the balls, where logic only grabs the imagination of the few.

In order for science to remain science, it must remain completely objective and not require us to accept anything on faith.

How belittling and condescending of you! Bravo!!! I've neither chosen to become a Christian based on my emotions, nor would it have LASTED 17yrs if I DID...Our emotions are INCREDIBLY fickle at the BEST of times....

No, Hun, I made my Choice for Jesus because He revealed His TRUTH to me and I CHOSE to ACCEPT it, with both my intellect, and my heart!

If you have trouble accepting science due to religion then nothing will help.

Religious nuts are stupid.
