Who is this we?
The President sent us over there. Most people do NOT agree to his decision. The intel wasn't there, and Bush's popularity is at an all-time low for any President. If you don't think his CIA cronies are behind 9/11 to get us to think we have an enemy over there, view

As for your comment on Iraq being a second Vietnam, I wholeheartedly agree. My fear is that the returning soldiers will be ignored just like the Vietnam war.
The reason the military is so big is to create cushy civilian government jobs that justify the existence of government programs the pork barrel administration uses to hide their control and cash. This statement doesn't exclude Democrats either. It's rampant. It's Illuminati control.

Ever since we went to an all volunteer force, the military has been treated very kindly. Far more conflicts have been avoided in an effort not to scare off the troops.
You completely misunderstand the purpose of having a military. A strong, well-prepared military is the best guarantee of peace ever invented.
Really, I think you are the typical clueless wimp that is scared that someday, somewhere, someone might ask you to stand up for your own freedoms -- and that thought terrifies you.

I would love to have a beer with you sometime elle. however i think if we did it would be more fun if you didnt have fox news on in the background to imediately regurgitate. I feel bad for any person who lives in this level of missplaced fear. we have had many good and many bad prsidents and we exist. so if you think the last 8 years were the greatest and are unwilling to look at measurable indicators fine. but when you (a fear based consevative) and me (a semi liberal who just wants to ride it out to see what happens) can share a beverage and agree that for the most part we all want the same things, we will finally have the abillity as a people to stop buying the BS from the extremes and focus on creating a strong middle class with decent human values.

What a load of buffalo chips!
Why don't we just do away with the Army and let the terrorist have America. You peace at all cost people with no backbone will be the undoing of our nation for sure. It's time you all put some big guy panties on and stand up for our troops and our nation for a change. Freedom is not given to the nation with the smallest Army but to those who would cherish it enough to lay down their lives for it. Benjamin Franklin said once "Those who would trade freedom and liberty for security deserve neither" You sir, deserve neither.

Do you understand what you are saying? You want the US, the most hated country in the world, to cut down its military? When China is pumping up its military, Iran is becoming hostile...Korea....ring any bells?
Sure, its a good plan if the world was at complete PEACE with each other. But it will never be like this.

the world tried that once after WW1, unfortunatly it backfired as a psycho named Hitler secretly built up a huge military and with he launched the worse war in human history and since everybody had decided where not going to go to war no more it took a long time before anybody had the military might to challenge him.
The moral of history is thus this. In order to have peace you must be prepared for war.

We could do this. In order for it to work we would need to draft a large groups of men for only 18 months, I mean up to 60% of all able body men from 18 to 24. After they finish their 18 months they go into a reserve until they are 50. The Swiss and the Isrealis have a system like this. It works for them.
Inoder to have a small army you need a large and trained reserve.

I think you answer is a good one in thought but not real life.
What would you do to the thousands of people and families who would lose everything if you cut down the military?
People choose to join the military. They are not told they have to. From a Soldiers wife, I think if everyone just supported our troops and knew the whole story they wouldn't have such a problem.

How far do you want to cut it down. It has been cut and cut again. Do the math, Multiple tours of duty , Extended tours of duty. Base closures. Cut it down and make it easier for other factions to try to take over the US. Disarm the people while you are at it.
