So I really think that diamonds are so over played and I really don't want one.. I told my boyfriend that I would rather have a pearl. My mom thinks that I am crazy.
What do you think?

I think your wedding ring should reflect you and what you love. I've seen a lot of modern wedding rings with emeralds, rubies, etc in place of a diamond. Get what you love, you're the one who will be wearing it for the rest of your life!

The whole diamond engagement ring thing really isn't all that traditional. The "tradition" became widespread in the 1940's when De Beers hired an advertising company to increase diamond sales. The advertising company invented the slogan "A Diamond is Forever," and since then, people have seen engagement rings as synonymous with diamond rings.

Before the 1940's, all kinds of gemstones were used in engagement rings, so in that sense, it is completely traditional to choose a "non-traditional" stone. You and your fiance should feel free to choose a stone that has meaning for you. If you want a pearl, then go for it!

The engagement ring that my fiance gave me was diamond ring. It is very beautiful. And he had it craved too with "Tresna Love Karlek" it is love in 3 different languages, balinese english and swedish.

DIamond is OK but after I watched movie "Blood Diamond" I dont want to have another diamond...

So we will have our wedding band only simple one, only platinum with special design pattern. We ordered and we had them already now (our wedding day is still in January, plenty of time still ;)
They dont have any stone, because I dont like the idea a man wearing ring with any kind of stone. And I also dont like the idea to have different wedding band (me and him).
So we decided, we will have the exactly same on, simple, no stone.

So for you, i think pearl is OK, eventho I would suggest you to think more about it. Pearl seems weak and fragile. And I think you would like to wear your wedding ring all the time right? So maybe pearl will be damaged easily?

I think that it is the ring you will be wearing for the rest of your life, so it should be your decision on what you want. I have had pearl rings and they are so beautiful. I picked a diamond when I got married, but never can wear it because of the work I do (what good is that right). Just pick what you want, I think you will be happier that way. Good Luck!

I don't like diamonds either really, they are just not for me, there are no rules saying you have to have diamonds, if you want a pearl then that's perfect, it is your jewellery after all and if you are wearing it for a long time then you want to like it!

That is actually what my fiance did for me. I like diamonds, but I like Tahitian pearls more so we decided on a ring that has both - which turned out to be MUCH more affordable. It will require a lot more care, but it is up to you.

If that's what you would rather have there is nothing wrong with it. That's all that should really matter anyways. The money for the diamond can be better spent somewhere else.
