I was taught at school that this means: turn so the enemy can hit you again, for he will be judged.

I also saw heard someone say that how turning the other cheek meant something different in Middle-Eastern culture. I think it was showing your enemy your superiority to them, for they have sinned and you have not.

Please tell me the real definition of turning the other cheek.

As an answer gave this example,
Giving your jacket to someone who stole your shirt will only encourage this person to steal more.
Today was your shirt, tomorrow will be your wallet, then your car...

In Islam, you forgive the person who did you wrong, but not give him the chance to do you more wrong.

for inner maximum offenses, sure - turn the different cheek. For legal offenses (inclusive of being mugged and robbed), on an identical time as a guy or woman would desire to forgive for inner maximum harm, yet for public risk-free practices, those activities would desire to be reported. Nowhere did Jesus say to permit criminals to bypass loose! in the event that they repent and return what they have stolen and make restitution, then the regulation is loose to pardon, IF IT SO CHOOSES! yet to no longer rfile a mugging is assisting and abetting a criminal in his criminal activities, putting the muggee as an confederate, after the actuality. those muggers do no longer want the money worse than your spouse needed it. She (the two one among you) worked to EARN that funds. in the event that they rather want funds, they might desire to get a activity, no longer take what somebody else worked stressful to earn! so a techniques as "no longer inflicting any further issues", she IS inflicting issues - for different victims! To the the remainder of your question, i'm nevertheless attempting to income the thank you to try this - to coach the different cheek. no longer continuously effectively. yet whilst a legal situation arises, inclusive of whilst our foster daughter stole our motor vehicle, we DID call interior the police. the vehicle became chanced on broken (she became in basic terms sixteen, did no longer have a driving force's license, and clearly did no longer understand how topersistent!) I have faith that this permits to make sparkling issues from MY attitude, a minimum of. God bless you as you seek for a stability and seek for to do God's will on your lives.

Matt 5:38"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.'[g] 39But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. 41If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

This passage is from the Sermon on the Mount [Matt 5:1-7:2]

I was raised Catholic and my thought about turn the other cheek meant to empathize with the aggressor and love them enough to let them hit you again. Also, to not pass judgment against them and to forgive them least you not be forgiven. You see this a lot within Catholic teaching... for instance the command to love God with your whole soul above all others and to love your neighbor as yourself.

It doesn't mean "Please sir, may I have another?" that's for sure!

It means that by your refusal to strike back, karma (as ye sew
shall ye reap) will take care of your enemy, since it is not ours, but God's to judge. Justice always comes in some way to your attacker, and you don't have to personally dish it out.
Now just have faith that it's true, because it is. It keeps YOUR karma clean as well to turn the other cheek..God is Love,
by not striking back, we are behaving in God's image, the way we were made..Not striking back is practicing Christ consciousness. That's what it means.

Read it in context - it is right in the same passage where Jesus says if someone steals your shirt, offer him your jacket also. If someone forces you to walk with him for one mile, offer to walk with him 2 miles.

Clearly Jesus is not talking about superiority or revenge, but about sacrificial love that does not seek it's own and does not seek revenge, but gives and gives to others out of love.

IF.... you truely believe in our Lord Jesus, the Giver of life, and the God of LOVE, then NOTHING in this evil world can hurt you... even if someone kills you... you will not die because the Lord God Jesus Christ is the Giver of life... no one has the power to do anything to you unless our Father in heaven gives them the power to do what they do so that when unbelievers see what happened to you they can rant and rave that they won... but in truth they lose... because our Lord Jesus has the keys to life and death in His possession... the true church of Jesus Christ lays within the hearts and minds of all the true believers that WILLINGLY let Him enter into them... and the gates of hell cannot prevail against it! Amen! It all depends on where your heart and mind is... on serving the devil or on serving and LOVING our Lord Jesus Christ!

Like much of what Matthew says it is not meant to be taken literally but to bring your attention to what he is talking about. Taken in context, the purpose of what is said is made clear in Matthew 5:44,45; ' ... but I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven...'

It is that whatever others do to insult you, not to mock but receive, just like Jesus when He took all on the cross. The real definition is how much ever other is angry at you, we can show our love, just like Jesus does.
