Can you get a marriage license in one county (the one I live in for example) and then use it in the one where you plan to marry?

I'm getting married in SF and it would be easier to get the license locally vs SF.

Yep! My husband and I got our marriage license in San Diego County (where we live) but got married in San Francsico with no problem! Just make sure EVERYTHING is filled out when you turn it in. Congrats and good luck!

What a coincidence, I just went to a wedding on Saturday where they got the certificate in Hollister (San Benito County) and were married in Salinas (Monterey County). The county even sent an officiant out to Salinas to perform the ceremony.

Best place to ask would be your local courthouse where you get the license.

Here are the CA laws on it: http://www.supportcourt.com/california_family_law_code.htm

Sections 350-360 spell out all the requirements of the license and recording the solemnization, but make no mention of where the solemnization must occur.

Unfortunately, sections 420-425 might cover it, but the page won't resolve. Easiest to just call your county clerk and ask.

it doesn't have to be the same county,,,I lived in northern cali, and got my marriage licence (for $75) in my town, and we were married in San Diego. After the wedding, and the licence is filled out and signed by the witnesses and the clergy member (priest), the clergy member mails it back to the county you reside in, and about a week or so later you can go pick up your offical marriage licence....

Has to be in the same county you are getting married in.
