Was Saul really that much worse than David? Isn't God's spirit what made David a great king? Saul had that too... so why did Saul fail?

because of his impatience and lack of trust in God, but even after God gave sauls kingdom to david God gave saul several chances to come back to him, instead Saul turned to hatred and jealoucy toward david, but even after that God gave saul another chance and saul became impatient again and went and attacked the philistines that crushed sauls army, when in fact his son jonathon warned him saying lets join david God wants us to live and in fact saul and his men did have a chance to live but sauls pride and impatience got him killed. Saul just didnt want to give david the crown when he was advised to do that tisk tisk tisk..

Was Saul A Good King

Saul was made king because the Isrealites begged for a king. God said, not yet. And the Isrealites said, nay, but we WILL have a king. So God gave them Saul. Be cautious in what you ask for. You may get a bad king. Saul fell because he wasn't in right relationship with God. He disobeyed over and over and over, and did not repent. David was a man after God's own heart. Even though he did sin many times, he always repented.

Saul was the tallest and most known in battle of all the Jews. He supposedly was very handsome and charismatic. He also was a devout servant of God.
It wasn't until he started relying on his own merits as leader that he lost the spirit and started messing up.
God watched for a while then said this little Shepard boy will be next.
All of David's will was centered on his belief in God, and so the saga begins.
Remember it was the people that insisted on a king. God was happy with his theocracy.

Remember God didn't want the people to have a king and tried to talk them out of it. They wanted a tall dark handsome (outside appearances) king. God told Saul He'd give him victory in a battle but to wipe out everything and everybody in the town afterwards. Saul became proud and haughty and disobeyed then lied. It seems he didn't believe God. Now David believed God was soverign in all matters. David was weak but humble. He admitted sin and was truly sorry, trusting God to deliver him.
I think Saul failed for the same reason Adam did, pride.
He didn't believe God. Satan told Adam &Eve "If you eat then you'll be like God, knowing good from evil".They didn't have humble & contrite hearts, the thing God searches the earth to find. He found this in David.

Actually, the Israelites demanded that God give them an earthly king like all the other nations around them had. God let him fail as an example to the people that worldly rulers will fail, that He alone is sovereign. David failed too, but he had a heart for God that Saul did not have.

Right from the start Saul had trust issues with God. He was strange in a bad way. When it came time for his coronation, he hid amongst the baggage. He wouldn't obey or trust God. So Saul couldn't hold the post.

The reason Laban had to be killed was so Nephi could get the brass plates. The brass plates was basically the bible. Without them, Nephi's people would had forgotten the gospel. With one person's death, hundred of thousands knew the truth. While Jesus was on the Earth, the Holy Ghost wasn't needed. But when he was gone, his presence also wasn't there so the Holy Ghost was once again needed. Only when Jesus was living was the Holy Ghost not there.

each man follows his own road saul had been a great king but then he turned his heart away, he made his own choice.
David was honestly a horrible person, but God never gave up on him because of his heart, he truly repented when he screwed up which he did often and very big, he was very full of remorse and turned from doing it again.
It shows us that even when we mess up God see's whats in our hearts and judges us more on that then what we do.
