I believe that all religion IS one religion. We all believe the SAME GOD, we all just call him different names, or see his techniques different ways. Kind of like Santa. =D

Well you may not accept what I am going to say, and some people will think that my theory is ridiculous. First off I don't believe in religion, I do believe in God, and having a personal relationship with him. Not some sort of do' s and don't s. I believe however that Christianity is the truth, because of Jesus Christ.
Here is my reasoning.
have you ever played the game telephone? Where something starts out as for example " the man runs down the road to get grapes" and ends up " the Man hunts out a load of apes"?]
O.k. well anyways if you believe the Bible to be true, than originally we were once with our God, and then we got separated, you know the story.
Well imagine the first humans, having to tell this story about God to their children, and then those children to their children, and so on and so on. Over time the truth of God changed into many different false religions because of the distortion of the original truth. Ok, well how do I know Christianity is not a distortion of this truth? Easy, because Jesus Christ, came and restored that truth. If you take a look at Christianity, you will notice that the same thing (distortion) is happening. That is why we see so many denominations appearing, the same distortion is happening again, except this time when Jesus comes back, its for good.
This is a very recent theory that I developed, so if it doesn't make sense I apologize but I am still discovering it myself.

Many people are just brought up that way. "This way is right, therefore everything else must be wrong". It is so indocrinated in many faiths that their's is the only right one that people become fanatical about the issue.
Believing that yours is the only right one gives a person strength and comittment while at the same time, it neatly removes the nesessity to go and have a REAL, IN DEPTH look at any of the others.
I have my religion, it works for me, but I never say that anyone else is wrong, just different. I reackon that every religion has it's good points, it's just that some are a little more stubbon and down right rude when they speak to others.

You viewpoint is not uncommon.
Many of the actually thinking people find so many flaws in the teachings of religions in the world today that they cannot participate in it any longer.
Simple people that don't question anything (dumb sheep) will continue to follow any crazy religion , even if it is proved to them to be false.
But the problem is not with God , but rather the religions in the world today.
The Bible says that 'the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one'
The wicked one is Satan the devil , yes , the world is run by Gods enemy.
In his world he has made systems , and one of them is his world empire of false religion.
In Revelation it is referred to as the Harlot.
Religions that are in this empire are characterized by their teachings that are not in harmony with the truth according to the Bible.
With careful examination you will see that almost ALL religions are part of this world empire , which is also known as 'Babylon the Great' .
Its purpose is to lead people away from serving the true God - Jehovah.
Yes , under the rule of Satan , they have even tried to eliminate his personal name from the pages of the Bible., and they are even afraid to use it.
Soon a time will come when all of these false religions will be destroyed , and all of the followers in them.
That is the fate for what is known as organized religion - total destruction.
After the great war of Armageddon only right hearted individuals that have followed what the Bible really teaches and worshiped Jehovah in an acceptable way will be left alive.
The earth will be restored to a paradise as will the residents health be made perfect , just as what was purposed for man in the garden of Eden so long ago.
So , yes , the worlds religions are a dead end literally !! , but still good and right hearted people have time to learn the truth about God and live a good clean way that he approves.
I am sure that the benefits are well worth the wait.

I'm in the same boat as you. I always tell people that my beliefs are "under construction" at the moment. What I mean by that is that I just don't pretend to have all the answers. I'm not going to let some religion tell me what to believe or not believe. I am trying to figure all that all for myself for once. So far (I haven't gotten very far), I believe that we all have a conscience for a reason...that is very important; if there is some sort of existence after this one--if it is based on anything-- it should be based on what we did--not what we believed; I believe that a lot of what is traditionally considered "sin" is hogwash (as in homosexuality, premarital sex, alcohol, smoking), but at the same time, one should respect their body, as it is what gets them through this life. I believe that family is so SO important...it's unmeasurable how much so, and that a kind word goes a far way. I don't need to believe in any kind of God or prescribe to a certain belief system to be a good person, I am good because I choose to be, although I am far from perfect, as I believe that to be an unattainable state. Hope that helps. Oh yeah, I still believe that there is a higher power, but whatever created us doesn't want us to waste our time contemplating him/her/them/it but rather to make good use of our time here in this existence.

You are a wonderful proto - atheist / agnostic.
to answer the first question -
Because it is easier to believe you are right than to admit you are wrong.
The second - Most of the Abrahamic ( jewish, catholic, islam etc) and other MonoTheistic reliegeons use the claim as being the only path to GOD the supreeme being. Thus setting themselves up as being Closer to GOD than any non worshiper to form a distinctive society. It is easy to believe you are a better person if god is the ultimate judge, and you worship him where others don't.
It comes down to the Heirarch of Grace - If god is flawless, then hes clerics, his priests must by default be almost flawless, and his worshipers although somewhat flawed are not as flawed as those who do not accept the supreme being.
This structure gives Priests power over their parish / community, and it has and will always be used for political ends, to foster ignorance, or to create hatred against those who are different from what the priests percieve as normal.

My religion is Hinduism.
Hinduism, the world’s oldest religion, has no beginning--it precedes recorded history. It has no human founder. It is a mystical religion, leading the devotee to personally experience the Truth within, finally reaching the pinnacle of consciousness where man and God are one. Hinduism has four main denominations--Saivism, Shaktism, Vaishnavism and Smartism.
The following nine facts, though not exhaustive, offer a simple summary of Hindu spirituality or about Hinudism.
1 Hindus believe in a one, all-pervasive Supreme Being who is both immanent and transcendent, both Creator and Unmanifest Reality.
2 Hindus believe in the divinity of the four Vedas, the world's most ancient scripture, and venerate the Agamas as equally revealed. These primordial hymns are God's word and the bedrock of Sanatana Dharma, the eternal religion.
3 Hindus believe that the universe undergoes endless cycles of creation, preservation and dissolution.
4 Hindus believe in karma, the law of cause and effect by which each individual creates his own destiny by his thoughts, words and deeds.
5 Hindus believe that the soul reincarnates, evolving through many births until all karmas have been resolved, and moksha, liberation from the cycle of rebirth, is attained. Not a single soul will be deprived of this destiny.
6 Hindus believe that divine beings exist in unseen worlds and that temple worship, rituals, sacraments and personal devotionals create a communion with these devas (divine beings) and God.
7 Hindus believe that an enlightened master, or satguru, is essential to know the Transcendent Absolute, as are personal discipline, good conduct, purification, pilgrimage, self-inquiry, meditation and surrender in God.
8 Hindus believe that all life is sacred, to be loved and revered, and therefore practice ahimsa, noninjury, in thought, word and deed.
9 Hindus believe that no religion teaches the only way to salvation above all others, but that all genuine paths are facets of God's Light, deserving tolerance and understanding.
Hinduism is unique among the world's religions. I boldly proclaim it the oldest religion in the world. To begin with, it is mankind's oldest spiritual declaration, the very fountainhead of faith on the planet. Hinduism's venerable age has seasoned it to maturity. It is the only religion, to my knowledge, which is not founded in a single historic event or prophet, but which itself precedes recorded history. Hinduism has been called the "cradle of spirituality," and the "mother of all religions," partially because it has influenced virtually every major religion and partly because it can absorb all other religions, honor and embrace their scriptures, their saints, their philosophy. This is possible because Hinduism looks compassionately on all genuine spiritual effort and knows unmistakably that all souls are evolving toward union with the Divine, and all are destined, without exception, to achieve spiritual enlightenment and liberation in this or a future life.

Question: "How are people so sure that they're religion is the only TRUE religion? "
===
Amid the great confusion in the world, a person who is genuinely searching for the truth, is honest in their traditions and sincerity, will be led eventually to the true religion. I know my beliefs are correct because of the accuracy of the principles that govern them.
These principles have order, are taught and administered with authority of that order, and lift and challenge my spiritual capacity continually. My beliefs have no end, and do not "shut out" the possibilities of truth existing where I have never considered them to have existed.
My beliefs are defined in 13 Articles of Faith, and the 13th one does well to summarize the "capacity" of them. "We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or a good report, or praiseworthy, we seek after these things."
Can a Christian make such a claim? Can a Muslim? Can the Buddhist? No.
No religion can measure up to the stature of the true Gospel of Jesus Christ, found among the Saints of God, his covenant people, today.
And if you're truly interested in understanding your question and the answer to it, you are welcome to discuss these things further with me through private message, as this open medium of exchange gives insincerity much more latitude to disrupt the chances for a genuine conversation to exist.

You have your opinion and I have mine. I think mine is the true religion for me. Any religion that believes that God is real, is a true religion. Whether I am right in my beliefs or you are right in yours, will one day be told. But let me say this, if a person believes a certain way and does not believe that their religion is the true one, then they need to go to one that they believe is true. And if they didn't believe theirs was the true one why would they be in it to begin with. Because that is suppose to be the reason for them being in that religion, because they believe it to be true. Right?

:) Firstly, we have brain. Use it, I do.
After thinking deeply causality, I come into a conclusion that there must be something who start the engine to build entire universe.
How many starter? mm this is easy, there must be only ONE starter who have the almighty power, otherwise they will fight soon or later, and finally the almighty ONE is the winner.
OK then, should I give a name to it. Well.. .yeah... mmm.. let's see what the old ancient story named this thing. Use word derivation, trace back the culture, tradition... and oops there are still some names... alright, I choose the more intellect one, they call now as ALLAH.
La ilaha ilaLlah, so It is the TRUE religion base on my logic.
Simple isn't it, you don't need rocket science to understand.
