you're right, it's an easy way out ;)
did you have a question that you didn't answer yourself,
or were you just venting?
on a related note -- maybe if you change to "alternative
medicine" they will probably not tell you to go to the
doctor. They will tell you NOT to. ;)

Well.. sometimes the advice given may only be the best answer at the time and may need professional advice.
But I guess you could go to the pharmacist and ask them if you don't want to go to the doctor.. but one could ask.... why ask questions and answers page, what are you really look for.. the people that give answers here may not all be professionals either..
And of course this is really only a sounding board..most questions come from teenagers who have got a lot of growing up to do and can't ask there parents for advice etc or their friends or just want some other reassurances.. some a naive some arent ... So if some one has told you to go to a doctor it is no doubt they believe they are the best ones to solve your problem or seek further medical attention - if it was something more serious and something happened a few hours later it could affect the treatment your given.. i.e if only you came here first we could have prevent you losing your limb or spread of infection or whatever..
THINK !! People answering these question do it out of genuine concern not as of right.

The reason some say go to the doctor after giving information that could apply to the situation is because it helps the other person (some ask if they should) confirm that they should go to the doctor to have it checked out, but sometimes those answering the question of the person may not know that the person knows they should go to the doctor.
So then some of the answerers will say to go to the doctor to be on the safe side.

Some people just need the affirmation, and you may be surprised at the people that really need coaxing to go to see a doctor. Some people need to be told by 100's of people before they even consider going to the doctor. I will offer advice and then say if that does not work, I would recomend going to see a doctor. But I usually try to give them a few things to try first.

it looks you've got the wrong idea, unless you were asking a medical personel, that person's advice won't be good enough.
besides, there is no such thing as whether the pain is painful enough to see the doctor, some minor pains might be a small sign of a certain deadly disease (i am not cursing you in anyway, god bless).
i had a relative who fainted from a heart attack with no pain at all even.
sometimes, people are just worried that if something were to happen to you after they told you not to see the doctor, they won't be able to live with it.

That is why we say go to the doc because without tests or examining someone there is no way anyone can have a clue what is wrong with the person posting the question. If it bothers you enough to post on here then it is serious enough to call your doc about or go see him.

If you know that you should go to the doctor, why do you waste precious time that you will never get back posting questions here? If it is serious enough to post here, it probably warrants a trip to the docs office.

What else is there to say? We're on a computer and only YOU know if the pain or whatever is bothering you is to the point that it needs to be addressed. It's an obvious answer.
