Go to a hospital, and they can remove it using fluoroscopic equipment . That can be found in the xray department.

You are lucky that it is embedded in your hand. If it was close to a blood vessel, it will travel far from the original would. The damage that it does is similar to shrapnel wounds.

My dad has a piece of metal in his hand as well.

I can't remember the exact story details, but when he was young, he was hammering a piece of metal for some project he was working on and a heavy chip broke off and flew through the air and embedded itself in his hand. It embedded itself so deep in the flesh that he couldn't pull it out, and he didn't have any health insurance at the time so he decided to wait a day or two and only go to the doctor if it got infected.

It ended up healing over just fine when the bleeding stopped, and you can still see it in there... this funny gray object beneath the surface skin. It has never gone off in any metal detector, my brother and I tried to see if we could get it to go off with our kiddy "treasure finder" detector when we were kids but it didn't pick up on it at all.

I would assume that it all depends on the size of the object, and a BB is probably too small to be picked up by any basic metal detector. I researched metal detectors on the internet to see if any claimed to pick up signals on BB pellets, and I only found one company that claimed to have a metal detector strong enough to do so (KellyCo) although I couldn't find that claim in any product detail.

If I may make a suggestion or two:

1. Treat your BB gun as if it was a real gun. Always assume it is loaded, and never point it at anything living or breathing, or point it towards your face or put your hand in front of it. (My hope is that the BB in your hand was a result of a ricochet, but I doubt that a richochet would have enough power to break the skin.)

2. Try airsoft pellets. They can break the skin but I doubt that pierce as deep as metal BB's can. And better yet, if you do switch to airsoft pellets, use the biodegradable ones - love the earth. :o)

Hi really cool, What were you doing with your hand in front of a bb gun? If it bothers you, you may want to go in and have it removed, or next time you are at the doctor for something else you should ask him about that. Maybe when you are in the drug store you could ask a pharmacist some of these questions, because I have found them to be very helpful in situations simular to this. Good Luck!
