I took sitz baths once an hour after birth - it was the only thing that made me feel better! The kit the hospital gave me had little capsules that you put in it. Also taking a bath in epsom salt helped me alot. I had an episiotomy, too, but was healed enough to walk the mall after 2 weeks.

As far as exercising, RELAX! Don't get into a rush to get back into shape or you could strain yourself. Wait at least 6 weeks before starting an actual exercise plan. In the meantime, do kegels and breastfeed - nursing burns calories like nothing else and helps shrink your uterus down to size.

I never had to do a sitz bath (my mom did when she had me). I had an episiotomy (two cuts) and 4th degree tears. I did the squirt bottle thing with the spray and pads and all that good stuff for about six weeks until I saw my doctor and she said I was healing well. I would wait until your check up with your doctor before starting an exercise routine. Good luck!

Listen to your body if you feel that you can exercise now then go ahead and do so. If at any time you start hurting then stop and take it slower. The dr told me not drive, exercise, or anything to physical right after birth but he said that I know my body better then anyone else so to do what my body could handle. With my first child it took me a few weeks to be able to anything physical. When I had my 2nd baby naturally on a wednesday I stayed one night in the hospital so I got out on a thursday and on friday I drove my self to wal-mart and went grocery shopping lol So just listen to your body =)
