I would prefer to hear from owners who have this dog.

I think they are both equally yippy if you let them be. Key word is let them. Any dog can be a quiet dog if you let them understand that barking for no reason is not cool. I personally have a pug, which they are not known for being horribly yippy, I have met some that are. My pug actually is very quiet because I have never let him think he could be obnoxious. If he barked I would always reassure him and tell him no. But I did praise him if he barked at the door. My mom has a mini pin and he is a barker..but that is because she has let him rule the roost. Whatever dog you choose you have to be the boss..both of those breeds need owners who are dominate, or they will dominate you.

It depends on the dog. Chihuahuas like to make noise, but I own a Miniature Pinscher and she barks at anything. She barks at her food, she barks at cars driving by, she'll even bark at a piece of paper on the floor. Miniature Pinschers are noisy little dogs which makes them great for watch dogging. Chihuahuas can also be yappy, but it really depends on the personality of the Chi.

It depends, the one which was trained with the least amount of rewards when he barked will grow to bark less. Training can be both by intention as well as haphazardly. For example, if you tell the dog to be quiet when he barks may create an opposite reaction because your behavior is positively enforcing your dog to bark whenever he wants your attention.

Generally, the Chi dog barks a little more sometimes. But training is the main factor. Take care.

For your quietness,

I must say that my min pin is not a yapper except when there is a knock at the door. The funny thing is he doesn't distinguish between the real knock and the bell ringing or a knock on TV or in commercials. It's really funny. About a chihuahua I can't say but they say that the smaller they are, the yappier they are. We need experts on these two breeds. My next door neighbour has a tea cup seize Pomeranian and oh boy!! her mouth doesn't stop!

The dog who barks less is the dog who is trained not to. Any dog can bark excessively. Minpins and Chi's do not deserve the stigma of this.

Minpins yap all the time. My son's fiance has one. Chis don't yap 24-7. Some of them yap when strangers come around, but they just don't yap all the time. I have 7 of them and wouldn't have them if they did.

It depends on the individual dog, not the breed.
