We want them. Cools in the summer, warms in the winter

Ahhhhhh .... you watch toooo much HGTV, don't you? All those shows where the hosts make a point of saying, "I'm not a fan of the fan!"

OK, it is true that since ceiling fans (even without light-kits) generally come down from the ceiling about a foot or so, yeah, that might tend to make the ceiling look a bit lower. And since high-ceilings and so-called "soaring spaces" and "visual volume" are all the rage right now ... woe unto us with the standard 8-foot ceiling!

But really, all that's needed is head-clearance ... and I honestly don't know anyone who is 7 feet tall! Personally, I like my fans, and they do help keep us cool and comfortable. In fact, I'm sure they've saved us considerably on AC, since we like to keep windows open anytime we can.

While the designers might turn up their noses at ceiling fans, the fans just keep selling ... so what does THAT tell you? People still like 'em and want 'em!

My Dad took his ceiling fans down (I think, due to peer pressure because they weren't the most attractive looking especially as the ceiling is low with a horrible texture, and replaced them with light fittings that are more hideous than the fans)
He will regret his decision this summer!!!!!!
I was in between houses and stayed at Dads house last summer and I had the fans cranked up day and night!!
I would rather have the fans than over heat.

Ceiling fans are probably one of the best investments you can make. Cool in the summer and air circulation in the winter. As for design, there are thousands. Something to think about, room size, speeds, number of blades, cost, warranty, with lights/without. Gosh these things are a good investment and cheap. Good luck

I think as long as you have (or get) a newer model of ceiling fan and it goes with your decor you will love it.
They have so many styles and colors out now that you can match them with pretty much anything so just look at them and pick one that matches your home.

As a designer, I HATE them. BUT...as a person that lives in Fla. in the summer I LOVE them. I think they are fine provided it is somewhat inconspicuous.
