It used to work, but now when I try to set a restore date, it tells me to turn on the hard disk options.I try, it says it cannot be done and asks me to try restarting my system . I have done that, and no luck either.

Are you sure that System Restore is still enabled? Go to:

Start => Programs => Accessories => System Tools => System Restore

and make sure that "Turn off System Restore on all drives" is not selected. Also, could you provide the exact wording of the error message? Please update your question when you have a chance and let us know.

Maybe restore points are disabled?
