Alright, i know that sounds real bad but read more.

1. It was the first week of school.
2. I don't EVER drive that street at that time.
3. Right after the school zone, there is a 40 speed limit sign on the same side of the street across a small one way street.

I'm going to try to fight this. It only cost me 156 bucks, I was expecting double that but its more that I'm I don't wanna go to traffic school. This is my first moving violation.

I've taken photos of the street and such. Should I even bother trying to fight this?

First off, a judge can't increase the ticket. That is just stupid. I have the right to contest a citation, this is a traffic citation. The judge can't tack on add'l citations especially since hes not a officer...hes a judge.

Second, the 40 speed limit is on the SAME side of the street. About 20-30 feet away, on the other side of a side street and the officer got me on his speed gun while crossing this street.

Third, i didn't argue at all. Learned a long time you don't make an impression on someone when you are in the wrong...just shut up and leave.

it doesnt matter how many times u've been on, or havent been on the street. 20mph is 20 mph, and all school zones and very well marked. during restricted hours, the school turns on the speed limit sign that nullifies normal speed limits.....u should know that by now.
u can try to fight it, but u wont win. school zones are well marked with regular signs, and also painted on the pavement. 18 miles over in a school zone and only 156 bucks.......u got off lucky. try to fight it, and the judge can easily tack more on.

Yeah right. Too bad you didn't take photos of those big yellow signs with the pictures of the children crossing the road. Of the flashing yellow lights on the sign, that said: SPEED LIMIT 20 When School Is In Session. Too bad you didn't get a picture of the little kid chasing ball across the street as you blazed at him at 38 MPH.

I'd love to see the look on the judges face. As you explain how you didn't see any of that. Because you were too busy looking at the 40 Speed Limit sign on the other side of the School.

You could fight. Remember that insurance will go up. But try to find some more evidence to help prove your point. The fact that you hardly ever use that road won't fly well with a judge, especially if the cop does show up. But remember, if the cop shows up, what will you have to argue. And if you lose will it have been worth your time? Then again, traffic school is hell.... Also, think of how you acted to the cop. I didn't know this till recently, but there is a spot on the back of the ticket they send to court that describes your behavior. So if you argued or were rude or short-temptered, you may not want to fight it.

As you said, the 40 MPH sign was "after" the school zone. School zones are well posted so being there for the "first time during that time" will not go over with the judge. My guess is that you will be found guilty and have just added court costs to the fine and traffic school costs.

The zone is there to help protect school children.

If you have such a low regard for the safety of schoolchildren, then you ought not to be on the road at all. Think yourself lucky that your appalling driving ended only with a ticket and not with a child under your front wheels

No. It's not worth your trouble. The Cops are REAL "sticklers" when it comes to enforcing speed limits around School Zones- so that's one fight you're probably going to lose. Take the "hint" from your #2 point; DON'T drive that street on school days...

No ... ive had one of these before and bc it was in a school zone its a double whammy! Believe me I know the courts and they frown about the school zone... I was doing about the same speed as you.. just get your ticket and try not to stress about it...Not to sound mean but the 7 times I went to court the cop showed up...why? Bc they get paid overtime for being there.. so most likely they will show up

in case you have been ticketed for rushing in a school zone, you have been maximum in all probability rushing for the period of the "college zone hours". despite in case you could coach you have been using via for the time of a time that the college zone shrink replaced into no longer in stress, you have been nevertheless 3 mph over the published shrink. no longer putting the time on the fee tag does not invalidate it. your guy or woman recollection of the time it took to jot down the fee tag and to flow to p.c.. up your boyfriend and force back, places you very close to to the time-physique published and there is not any thank you to coach with a receipt which you got it 3 to 5 minutes before getting the fee tag. the undeniable fact that the police have been flagging all autos down potential that there would have been some particular condition that required them to be there to slow human beings down early or that the warning flasher replaced into no longer working

It doesn't matter what day/time or week it was. The point is, you were caught speeding in a controlled zone. Admit you were wrong and don't fight it. You would not get away with it here in New Zealand.
