It probably won't be. You always could try to install it and run it in XP Service Pack 2 Compatibility Mode. To do this...

1) Install the program as you normally would. BE SURE that you are an administrator, part of an administrator group, or have administrator permissions. Without any of these, your install won't ever work.

2) The installation should stick a shortcut on the desktop. Right click that shortcut, and go to "Properties"

3) Click on the "compatibiltiy mode" -- Check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" Select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2).

4) Click on OK and give it a go. If it doesn't work, it probably never will.

Windows Vista, just like with Windows XP, has a compatibility mode thing you can use to attempt to run many applications. Unfortunatly, a lot of games aren't 100% compatible with Vista because of the way graphics work (in every other version of Windows, video is a kernel, or core, process that has to run; in Vista, video is a process that isn't kernel level.)

If you can't get the game going and you just recently bought your computer, your manufacturer may offer an "upgrade" to Windows XP. If you can't obtain Windows XP and the game still isn't working, call EA and see if they have a Vista patch for the Sims.

I have the Sims 2 and the pet expansion pack. I had to download a patch before they would work with vista. I did it a while ago and don't remember which site I used. I didn't use the official Sims site though.

So with the right download the Sims 2 will work on Vista. Just search the Internet for Sims 2 vista patches. And you'll be able to fix your game.

This website looked promising; http://www.thesimsresource.com/article/vista

I have Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit) edition. The Sims Complete Collection works perfectly with it.

So, something else may be wrong. Check these hardware requirements for The Sims:

Video RAM must be 4MB or more
Video card must be capable of 800 X 600 @ 16-bit color
CPU must be 450 MHz or faster
System RAM must be 128MB or more
CD-Drive must be 4X or faster

What, specifically, happens when you try to run the game? Do you have UAC turned on or off? Have you checked the Event Viewer for information?
