Apparently, the State of California requires that all motor vehicles and light trucks have a license plate displayed on both the front and back of the vehicle. (California Vehicle Code §5200). I guess you would have to drill holes into your bumper so you can screw your plate in the front of your car.

Pretty flimsy excuse for flouting the law, and it won't get the ticket excused. You order a bracket from the dealer that allows you to mount the plate, or you get a universal bracket from WalMart or AutoZone, just like the rest of us living in the real world do. If you live in a state that requires a front plate, you have to have a front plate.
Do not put the plate in the window, by the way. In an accident a flying plate can cut somebody's head off. Plus it isn't legal anyway.

Easy solution. Both "G V" and "sensible" are correct. California requires a license plate on the front and rear of light vehicles, and manufacturers are required to include a mounting bracket on vehicles sold in states that require a front plate. If you have a car that is reasonably new (within the last 10 model years) simply go to a dealership for your make of car, and their parts department can order the correct mounting bracket & hardware for you. I had the same problem, and that is how I solved it.

All cars sold in the us have to have a dealer option for a front tag bracket. If you do not want to have it on your car you have only 2 choices. 1... Never drive the car 2..Move to a state that doesn't require a front tag. Where your car came from means nothing to the state. They will keep giving you tickets for a while then they will pull your tag and you can not drive it.

Obviously your car was not originally sold in CA. Cars that are sold in States requiring front plates are fitted with a front license bracket. You will need to find the bracket and install it.

just tape your plate on there, take a picture, send it in to the court with your money, and take the plate back off. beats putting a front one on there. by the way, they're not legally allowed to pull you over for no plate - they can just add it on if you're pulled over for something else. I'm pretty sure they can't give you a ticket for no plate if it's just parked, because it's not DRIVING, so you could have taken it with you or something, you know? Sounds like BS ticket you should fight.
