I just moved into an apt and I need some decorating tips please. Here is the link to some pics of my place. I can decorate an accent wall in each room also. I'm thinking of a chocolate brown. To decorate, I'd love to use dark reds, chocolate browns, golds, yellows, and creams. Or something along those lines. But I don't know what to do...

Any tips would be fantastic!

Thank you!

here is the link I made for my out of state family so excuse the comments:

This is an apartment and I'm only allowed to have one accent wall painted per room. I basically need help with color schemes and how to tie things in. I have pics but not enough yet so I haven't hung them yet. I've got big iron wall scones, but haven't put them up yet either till I get more figured out... any tips would be great!! Thank you :)

I'm planning on curtains but want to get a basic idea of what to do first before I start buying big pieces. BTW, my couches are a beige-y taupe - it just looks different in the pics - any tips would be great!! Thank you :)

You obviously like vivid red, so I'd make a statement with that in the wall alcove in the front entrance. I see big, black iron candlesticks in there with white or cream tapers (forest green at Christmas), or some kind of black or oiled bronze candle holder(s) mounted on the wall. Nothing dinky in there, unless you have a collection of Russian Easter eggs or something dramatic to show off.

Kitchen counters are boring. I'd use Hunter green as a trim color to punch up the kitchen, or medium brown to be more conservative, or light brown to be safe. I think chocolate brown would be too overpowering here. Walls are too small to be interesting accents, which is why I'm thinking trim color. Traditional trim color application would be on the window frame and some kind of outline on the cabinets (maybe in the indent, if there is one). A less labor-intensive method is colored drawer and cabinet pulls. I don't like the metal pulls anyway--this isn't a high-tech kitchen. The fruit bowl is way too safe. Dark green or deep blue, depending on trim color.

I don't know what to do with the TV room. Olive sofa and chair and cold gray TV is a tough combination. The throw should be an earth color, not red. I'd like a khaki accent wall and a khaki and cream striped throw, but I don't know how a khaki wall would go with that gray TV. I'd put a runner on the coffee table to warm it up. Some pillows in earth colors would help the sofa and chair. Burnt orange, light browns, gold if you're careful.

Gold collar for the beautiful cat--like the sheet color.

Is that an unfinished pine bed? Sleigh beds scream for dark walnut finishes, but if you're good at it you could do a weathered antique white finish, which is yellowed anywhere from off-white to buff. More color here would not be a priority but the sheet color is an obvious choice for an accent wall. I can't see much chocolate here except in picture frames and mats or something restrained like that.

On my monitor the bathroom walls look like something between cream and beige and they look great with the maroon. I wouldn't change anything except maybe the trash can. It looks kind of brown in the picture, and a bit fussy for the clean lines in the room. Maybe it's distorted in the picture. If I were starting fresh with accessories I'd go for straight sides on the trash can. If I were doing a sketch of the bathroom I'd put in a picture of chocolate, in either a raw white frame and mat or maroon frame and mat.

I hope the umbrella is going to be bright turquoise. Look at pictures of Taos, NM, and you'll see how their signature turquoise doors and gates look fabulous with brown stucco. Sky blue and sun yellow would be my second choices.

First off, you have a beautiful new place. I love your use of red. Its one of my favorite colors to use. Most people shun away and alot of interior desingers say stay away from red. My living room is a burgandy, chocolate, beige, and grey. It looks really good.
Go to the site below and try the colors for the living/dining room.
"Fired Brick," "Burlap," and "Crispy Gold."
I'd try red curtains, I like panels like you have in the bedroom, but maybe choose a fabric that isnt as sheer. I'd use silver curtain rods, so they go with the silver hardware in the kitchen. I'd put a square or rectangular table in the dining room, but the round is okay if it is all you can afford, I've been there. I would put the Television on the wall where the couch is and I would put the couch at a right angle to the wall so it seperates the dining and living area. Then I'd get a console table and put it where the tv is now and put little nicknacks on it. You could use the yellow in throw pillows and vases and stuff like that. I think you need a few bar stools in front of the island, so it caould double as an eat in kitchen. You need to personalize your space , need pictures on the walls. Maybe a collage of pictures in chocolate brown frames on the wall of the stairwell. I'd put up red cafe curtains in teh kitchen and use red linens. I think you have the right idea, but you just need to personilize and add color.
If you have any questions you could email me if you want. I'd be glad to help, if I can.
Ohh, yeah, and I love oyur cat, shes so pretty.
