G'day Matt016,

Thank you for your question.

It should not be made the official language of America given that America consists of two continents North and South America with significant populations of Spanish and Portuguese speakers as well as English speakers. There are also other languages most notably French. It should possibly be the official language of the United States of America but that it is a matter for citizens of that country.

Regards

What purpose could that possibly serve besides spending a lot of taxpayer money to put English signs where they're not needed or wanted due to a largely foreign area where not much English is spoken. Look at almost any country outside of North America and the languages spoken in their countries. Many have at least 2 or 3. Switzerland's 3 (that's right, 3!) official languages are French, Italian and German.

Hell no!!!

First of all if AMERICA had to choose an official language by voting then english would loose because in america only two or three countries speak english as the official language, but almost all america speaks SPANISH except brazil, guyanas, haití...

SO IF THERE HAD TO BE AN OFFICIAL AMERICAN LANGUAGE IT SHOULD BE SPANISH
(and by AMERICAN I REALLY mean AMERICAN people..southamerica,centralamerica and nothamerica)

I don't know if it should but I would like to ask a question myself. Why should I have to learn a foreign language that nobody in my family can speak just to accommodate a group of immigrants in my country who are not trying to assimilate? If I were to move to another country and the people there spoke a different language, I would definitely learn it. I don't expect the people there to learn my language to accommodate me. I'm all for studying different languages but people shouldn't have to learn them just because certain groups don't want to learn theirs.

No. This wouldn't accomplish anything.

Spanish should be one of the two official languages.

It should be but it won't matter in the end.. Spanish will be the official language in 30 years! Guess I better start leaning it!
