I am afraid "Il est mort" is too harsh. For those of you who are fluent, how do the French usually say "he has passed away" ?

Il est décédé (avant-hier, ou le 27 Septembre). Ou encore, il nous a quitté (avant-hier, ou le 27 Septembre).

that's in English
