The first installment were due in September - I believe they're supposed to be paid no later than middle of November... After that I don't know what happens......?

it depends on how over due they are. usually you get a few months extra, but it'll cost you a little extra in interest. and usually they'll let you make payments

Typically the county will sell the property at a tax sale auction. Some States allow a redemption period during which you can pay the delinquency and get the property back. You need to check on the time period. Redeeming the property ususally costs more than the amount of the taxes due. They do not need to work with you because they can get the money through the tax sale. Set up things with your lender so that property taxes are collected as part of your monthly payment. Also make sure that you are being taxed at the appropriate rate. Many States allow big savings if the property is occupied as a primary residence as opposed to an investment property.

Call them, and they'll probably let you arrange to make payments. If it goes too long, you could lose your house, but they'd rather have the tax money late than have your house.
