The breeder who sold him to me surprised me and gave him to me too early ( I think). Anyway, since he is so young...how many times a day am I supposed to feed him? Also, he sleeps 23 hours a day...is that normal? He actually will be 5 weeks old this coming Friday Oct 5th... Another question, his legs are not strong at all...is that normal also?

I took him to the vet immediately after I got him last Friday...he said that he was fine...but he was also the vet who gave him his first shots at 4 weeks old.

He was kept in a box until I got him last Friday.

The breeder that sold you a puppy less than 5 weeks old is in violation of USDA laws and is an irresponsible breeder. This puppy was too young to be taken from it's mother.

Feed your puppy 3 times a day. There is a formula that is good to mix with the puppy kibble at this age:

Mix together-
1- can evaporated milk
1-egg yolk (not the white because very young puppies can't digest the white)
1 TBS. honey
1-can water

Add this to the crushed dry puppy food and feed your baby three times a day.

Consult your Vet about caring for a puppy this young and e-mail me if you have any questions...Hugs and congrats on your new puppy!

OMG...5 weeks is waayyy to early for a puppy to go to a home. I can't believe he is completely weaned and that the breeder let you have him at such a young age. Way way way too young..poor thing. I would soak so puppy food in warm water. If he doesn't eat that, grind the food up in a blender and mix it with water so it's easy to eat.His teeth are probably not ready to really chew big chunks. He isn't strong probably because he is so young and didn't get enough exercise before he came to you This will get better if he is given space to walk around. Give him lots of TLC and good luck with him. He really needs you now that you are the only one there for him. He probably misses his mom and litter mates.

I think you should've done more research or at least some. Enough to know when the best time to take home a new puppy is. I also agree that this breeder needs to be reported. Where I live it is against the law to sell a pup younger than 8 wks old.

You got the pup at 4 weeks old? That was 4 weeks too soon. I would not trust the breeder or the vet that gave the shots so early. His legs are weak because he was kept in a box and not allowed to wander around and get exercise. Our puppies are on the floor in an x-pen from the time they can walk, so they can walk around, learn to explore, play, exercise. It is vital for their development. I would feed him 3 times a day. Is he eating wet or dry food. Puppies sleep a lot but 23 hr is excessive. My chihuahua pups sleep about 18 hours a day. I would take him to another vet and have him checked out good to make sure he is healthy.

OMG what kind of breeder did you get your pup from??? Obviously not a reputable one. He's technically only like 4 1/2 wks old and no reputable breeder will let a pup go before 8 weeks and preferably 10 wks. At 4 1/2 weeks my pups have just barely begun to eat solid foods. I like to make sure the pups are able to eat completely dry kibble for at least a week before they go off to their new homes. And what vet will give a pup their first vaccinations at 4 wks old, unless the mom rejected the pups and they did not receive the first milk from their mother - most vets don't vaccinate pups before 6 wks of age. And yes it is normal that he sleeps that much, this just makes me sick to know that this little tyke was removed from mom and littermates waaaaaaaay too early.

"Timing can be everything. Ideally, the age to bring home a puppy is when he's between seven and twelve weeks old. This is considered the critical socialization period in a puppy's life, the time when he learns the most about his environment and begins to adjust to his surroundings.

If you find a puppy younger than six weeks, he may develop issues with separation anxiety and poor socialization habits. The puppy needs the first few weeks with his mother and other puppies from the litter to properly socialize. It will take a lot of hard work on the part of the owner to make sure a puppy so young grows up to be well adjusted. It's not impossible, but it involves a lot of time and expertise and such a puppy may not be right for you".

Dog training are excellent and very helpful to build you a stronger relationship with your dog. Read more https://tinyurl.im/Yvr5X

After I started training my dog, he became very attached to me and loves to stay by side as long as he can. But just going to them won't help. You have to practice what they teach you outside of the class and you need to keep up with it at least every now and then after the class ends otherwise they'll just go back to previous habits. This course is a really good place to go for dog obedience classes. It get's your dog around other people and dogs to socialize while getting the training you need. As for electric collars, I would say to not get one. In my experience, they're only a negative effect on your dog. I mean of course you're going to need to correct your dog, but being positive and encouraging your dog works a lot faster and easier.

Every dog is different, so unless you have a german shepherd or a really smart dog, it might take a while to train her. You might get frustrated with her, but go easy. She's still a puppy and has a lot of energy. A backyard or somewhere to run will help her get rid of a lot of energy that might cause her to misbehave from boredom.

WHY would you take delivery on a 4 week old pup? What did this idiot breeder tell you when you picked up the pup? Pups cannot be weaned that early from the mom. They cannot eat on their own & certainly cannot eat puppy chow, even if you soak it in hot water. That pup should have been with the mother until 8 weeks & that is pushing it. A good breeder keeps them until they are about 12 weeks old.

The pup should be able to walk & his legs should be strong enough to hold him up. I hope you got a health guarantee on him.

Take him to your vet as soon as possible & have him checked over. Take your paperwork with you to show the vet & be sure to take a fecal sample so he can be tested for parasites. The vet will also want to see proof of any shots he has had. He is too young to even have shots yet.

It is normal for a pup that age to sleep most of the day.

The breeder didn't even tell you how to feed him and how much? Get this pup to a vet before he dies.

5 weeks is too young to be taken away from the mother. In fact in most states is illegal. There is a difference between a play growl and an aggressive growl. She is probably just playing. Bull dogs are a bully breed, meaning they can be extremely stubborn, so be sure to invest in some serious professional training in the future.

I won't even go there about the breeder. If you can get your money back and return him, do, also this idiot needs to be turned into the local animal control/police...
Let's treat this as an orphaned pup.
Go buy some Esbilac puppy milk replacer, and a bottle for dogs. Feed it every 3 hours, mix according to the directions. Stimulate, which means moisten a cotton ball with warm water and gently wipe it across the puppie's bum and privates until it goes potty.
It will take a while for it to get off it's rear end. It may need to tied up if it is a swimmer puppy, is it's chest flat??? his legs flopping on the sides?? Email me if it is. Bullies tend to be longer to get off their rears than some breeds. You can email me and send me pics I will help you if he is a swimmer.
I would get up every three hours all night and day to take care of this pup. It will be alot of work, you also need to keep him warm, not hot, but warm. He may scream, if he gets cold and stops eating, take him immediately to the vets. They die quickly, and do not vaccinate this puppy. It should not get any vaccines until it is at least 6 or 7 weeks old. It might not have the immunity from it's mother's milk anymore, but a vaccine on a pup this young could definately kill it.
In about two weeks, if it is walking, you can start it on a weaning formula. Eukanuba makes a decent puppy weaning formula dog food, it is basically puppy food that is ground up and you moisten it with the esbilac. Keep that up for another couple of weeks and slowly switch to moistened puppy food kibbles. let me know how your bullie does... thanks, and if you ever see that breeder, feel free to tell him I think he is a freaking idiot....
