Help, please! I've been trying to find an answer to my question. I already have a few tattoos and have the chance to get another with one of my fav artists in a couple of weeks. BUT, here's the deal; I would see him on Monday and then I'm scheduled for gallbladder surgery Friday of the same week.
Is it okay to get a tattoo just days before a major surgery? If not, how long should I wait after surgery to get one?
I've posted this for a friend.

Let the artist know that you would love to have him do your tattoo, but you are having surgery. Then have the surgery first. I am sure that your artist will be around after you have it. I am not sure that your doctor would approve of having an open sore(tattoo) while he is trying to operate on you/friend. Wait till later.

you should probably ask your doctor about that but i would tend to say NO. you'll probably be somewhat bedbound for a few days, or is it lapriscopic surgery? that makes a difference too, as well as where on your body the tattoo will be, if it'll be on your back you'd be laying on it during surgery and that seems like it could be uncomfortable.

You shouldn't. It will take much longer to heal, and you (or your friend, whoever) won't have as much opportunity to care for a healing tattoo.
