I go to my doctor and trust her completely even though medical research follows the scientific method as well.
I trust that when I go on a plane it won't crash even though aeronautical science follows the scientific method.
I trust that almost every single technology I use will work correctly because all the research that allows for it to work follows the scientific method.

But when it comes to evolution, the big bang and the age of the earth I suddenly stop trusting science.

Why am I such a hypocrite?

Because religion plays on emotion. You are emotionally attached to the superstition called religion. You have a deep desire to believe that its tenets are true.

So, you don't mind science, at long as it doesn't disturb the emotionally ingrained beliefs you cling to.

It's good that you're asking that, that you realize something is wrong.

But why do you believe that those other things contradict your faith? You might think that some of them contradict the literal stories of Creation in the Bible (though I'm not sure that they all do..), but then those contradict themselves/each other as well, so that's nothing new.

I read something somewhere... What was it.. ?
"The Big Bang, if there was a Big Bang", would have required an infinite amount of energy applied to an infinite amount of matter in an infinitely small space. God only knows how that could happen!"

Why are you?

There are christians who incorporate science directly into religion.

The bible is written by men. Yes they where inspired by god. however that is no gurentee of there accuracy.

Inspired means-to influence, move, or guide by divine or supernatural influnces

2 a archaic : to breathe or blow into or upon.

The bible was written by men, so what they wrote is subject to there feelings and limited to there knowlege. as such they could not comprehend any scientific thought god might have given them. (like gravity, or atoms)

My favorite argument is why cant god have a dinosaur phase?

Creation myths are always sketchy at best.

Just forget genesis. And realize that the bible is not an instruction manual on how to live your life. all it is, is a contract that dictates the terms of the next life.

Who will say that God dosent use evolution as his way? who will be so presumptious to tell God what he can and can not do?

Your a christian. **** the bible and the various conflicts. Love people, be kind to them, and love Jesus. Then follow whatever specific traditions you believe in. Thats your religion. Not telling People what God cant do.

Beliefs are a large part of a person's personal identity and their sense of security in a world that is otherwise mysterious and confusing. To have something, other then personal decision, take away our beliefs (no matter if one is a believer, atheist, or other) would be to lose a part of identity, who we understand ourselves to be as a human being, and pretty much cause an identity crisis, something humans avoid like a plague.

In particular I think it would really affect views a person was raised with as they are a fundamental part of what built the person in the first place. Such building blocks of a person would, I believe, be like someone suddenly changing the color of the sky, or taking away our names.

But that's just my thoughts on it.

I would say anything that contradicts the Bible is false, but the Bible contradicts the Bible.

And it is not just that modern medicine is based on the scientific method, but that it is based on exactly the same sciences as the study of evolution, and only about 1/4 as supported by evidence.

That is just sooo true! Same with the Bible, if there's stuff in there I don't like I ignore it. I only believe what I want to. I only eat the food I like. I only shop at places that give me a discount.

I guess picking and choosing is how evolution works, and we all evolved from apes, who are some of the world's greatest pickers and choosers, so we do it too.

The Bible is not a Science book.

How could the authors of Scripture know more about science than present day scientists? Should this ignorance be a blow to the authority of the Bible? O course not. The Bible is not a scientific manual. It is a book of revelation about God, his creatures, and their relationship with him. God allowed our understanding of science to develop slowly over the centuries, but he gave us all we needed to know him, love him, and serve him throughout all ages. He gave us divine truth.

Reasoning minds want to know!
The bible answers many questions although it was never intended to be a scientific text book.
The big issue at hand is Who has the right to rule the world and the Universe?
That question can be found in the bible and your stand on this issue can make a difference.
www.watchtower.org or call your local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses to find out.

Because you're brainwashed into believing if you allow yourself for a second to think that something in the Bible might not be 100% factual, you're going to burn in Hell for all of eternity, so you're going to close your eyes, and stick your fingers in your ears and go "LA LA LA LA LA I DON'T HEAR YOU..." when presented with the mountains of evidence for evolution.
Then you're going to try to debate the issue anyway, even though you know nothing about the issue you're trying to debate, which will result in you asking ridiculous questions like "If we evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys?" or showing us pictures of crocoducks, which will ensure that you will be ridiculed until your death.

You understand the idea that Science does not run every day life. And well, Religion seems to be something different. People who say that it's a delusion simply do not understand the religious experience.

Evolution is a delusion. It's theory. Not fact.

Evolution, the big bang and the age of the Earth are all theories and have not been proven. They are taught like they are facts but they are all speculation. You are not a hypocrite. God created science. You should check out the Creation Museum near Cincinnati, Ohio. You would like it.
