If such a travesty ever happens then ALL of our American Fore Fathers will be spinning in their graves!

The US is not a christian nation, nor was it ever founded as one. In fact, article 11 of the Treaty of Tripoli states "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion..." which was written by president John Adams. Jefferson, Franklin, Adams, Paine, and many other founding fathers were not religious. McCain seems to be a smart man, and should know this. What happened to the McCain we used to know, who spoke out against religious fundies like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell?

Edit: Yes heismanu, I am sure. Jefferson, Franklin, Adams, and Paine were deists in one form or another. Some had a favorable view of christianity, others did not. Regardless, none of them believed in the divinity of christ, thus they were not christians.

Sure, and then tell them that the Christian beliefs that all Americans will have to obey are to be based on Jehovah's Witness doctrine and wait to hear the screams.

That's what these people who are asking for this type of thing do not understand. It's all good as long as it's all about their beliefs.

I think it's already happening, and has been for a long time. Just asked a similar question a couple of hours ago:

I guess it's still difficult since there are so many different religions and sects of the same but America is one of the few developed countries that is still governed by laws of the Bible. Scary...

No, but you raised an excellent point. This is what it will lead to... a false theocracy... the very thing those who framed the Constitution of the US wanted to avoid!!!

No. Freedom of religion means just that: believe what you want WITHOUT fear of retribution. Shame on you for suggesting otherwise.

Laws should be based on objective morality, NOT on a religion.

Only if we can create laws based on precepts honored by ALL RELIGIONS... As this is impossible, a theocracy should not happen.....

oh yes. we should create some sort of "Bureau of Morality" that regulates which forms of thought are "of God", and which are not. and we should use the warrantless wiretaps our good President has put in place to enforce it.

and furthermore, disagreeing with that Bureau should be a sin, and therefore a crime. great idea!

I'll go one step further, if you want to fire excuses at Christians.
Let's go to a monarchy, since heaven and the family of God is kingdom based.
