Haven't we run over them all yet?

And why, when a skunk gets run over, is the dead body always facing the same direction as the traffic is going? They see the car coming and instead of running they turn their backs on the car and try to spray it in defense. Why haven't they learned that doesn't work with cars?

"Where have all the Possums gone, long time passing? Where have all the Possums gone, long time ago? Where have all the Possums gone; gone to (____?______) every one. When will they ever learn, when will they ever learn?

Perhaps they are just waiting for the More Evolved species to stop and give them a ride? Or worse, maybe it is natures way of showing the Less Evolved where the middle of the road really is? "When will they ever learn; when will they ever learn?..."

If evolution is true why are we still running over Possums in what is basically a rush to go nowhere? The most deadly animal "killer" of humans is the gentle deer. Unlike Possum, deer have a tendency to come through the windshield, be the driver Snow White, bearing down in her overpriced SUV; or one of her seven highly evolved and long tenured dwarfs.

Ha!

I'm going to be lame, though, and try to answer logically: it's BECAUSE of evolution and the theory of "survival of the fittest" that we do still hit possums in the road and yet possums still exist. SOME possums are stronger/smarter than others, and manage to stay out of the road (the "fittest"), while the others still just don't get it ("Splat").

If the survival of the fittest theory WEREN'T true and all possums were the same, then certainly we'd be running over every single one of them, as they would ALL be sitting out in the middle of the road!

There waiting on the Chicken to Show them the Way to Get to the Other Side!

(that's pretty good too, for a possum, to make it to the Middle of the Road)

Why do people stand in the road only to be run over by cars? And yet, there are still more humans!! Wow, here's a theory. It's called reproduction. Anything or anyone can multiply and rodents multiply very quickly.

How long did it take you to think this one up?

Extensive research on Opossums have indicated a psychological pedelition for equilibrum.

Since the road is a major part of their known universe they naturally gravitate toward the middle.

Hell, we humans do it too. Where do we paint the stripe? right down the middle!

If creation is true, why do possums still sit in the middle of the road? Is this another fine example of "intelligent design"?

NOTE: There's a term for species that don't adapt to changes in their environment . . . "extinct".

Obviously not, although I do get a bunch of them at work that have been hit and need to be euthanized. Then we have to go through the pouch (if it's a female) and get the babies to euthanize them too. Searching through an opossum's pouch is not fun, but I digress.

What does this have to do with evolution again?

They sit in the road BECAUSE evolution is true.
