Okay, I have Vista on my laptop and my desktop. I HATE IT. I want XP back. I downloaded the .iso file for XP; but apparently Vista is not compatible with my DVD driver software, because it is disabled. There is no update on the Sonic website that I wouldn't have to pay for; and I can't afford to buy it. Without the software I cannot burn the CD necessary to revert back to XP.

Does anybody out there know of a website where I can get XP and NOT have to burn it to disk? I will be posting a wanted on Freecycle; but I'm not holding out hope, if these people are smart they won't let go of it in favor of Vista (terrible platform, almost worse than Windows ME). Or; does anybody out there know of a free software program that will CORRECTLY burn the XP .iso file to CD so I can reinstall it after reformatting? I can burn on my laptop; but even if I do that the computer STILL can't find the program to open the file. Please help me, Vista seems to have kidnapped my computers. Thanks!

UPDATE: I managed to get XP burned to disc; and it is now installed on the desktop. However, now the desktop will not recognize any of my device drivers (except my wireless keyboard and mouse), and I can't get online at all with it. If I go thru my laptop (which has its own set of issues), I can't download anything. So I guess I'll have to break down and spend the money to have someone fix it for me (the laptop and my other desktop as well).

Try CD BurnerXP from http://cdburnerxp.se/

Just remember that when you burn an ISO to a CD you actually DON'T want to write actual ISO to the CD, you wan to "burn a CD" from the ISO.

In CD Burner XP, when you start it, select the option "Create a Data CD/DVD"; then once in the program, select the option "File | Burn disc from ISO file". In the resulting dialog, select the ISO image to burn and away you go..

When you upgraded to windows Vista unless you deleted the XP version you can restore XP if you want. When XP upgrade came out it gave the option of restoring your PC back to the earlier windows that you had. Windows Vista has that same option.

You can by a real copy of XP for under a hundred dollars. That's the only good thing that's come out of Vista.

not sure about this but if you can burn a copy from your laptop...try to reboot your pc and insert the cd with your windows. make sure that you boot on your cdrom. if im correct your pc will detect your cdrom and ask you if you would like to format your computer.

if you want to change the boot sequence so that it will first look at your cdrom.. press "DEL" when you reboot. you can find it there in your cmos setup.

by the way make sure your xp is a bootable copy. :)

If xp came with your laptop, try using your laptop restoration disk. that should place xp back on your computer. If you dont have one, call the manufacturer of your computer and they might send you one.
