There are countless famous peace advocates but I'd like to take this moment to recognize those who we never even hear about. Those with no other motive than to help ease and end the suffering of fellow human beings.

Passifists are the most peaceful because if they engage in violence then they are no longer passifists. Buddhism does not encourage passifism but rather a peace first approach. Janism on the other hand does not. So when it comes to the most peaceful religions I'd say Janism comes before Buddhism I'd also say quakers are more historically peacefull then buddhists.
Peace certainly is a virtue but there certainly are things worth fighting for.

Buddha - Gautama disdained conflict.
LaoTzu - The Old Man avodied conflict.
Jesus of Nazareth - Went to death for his message, taught in parable to love one another.
Kongfutzu(Confucius) - Taught that Ritual and Custom can overcome Conflict.
Krishna - Taught that the Dharmic cycle would equalize the actions done against you.
Socrates - Went to death for his beliefs as well, Taught that Obedience to the Law (no matter how unfair) must be carried out in order to maintain society - even it means your death due to the personal opinions you may hold.
Honorable Mention goes to Sun Tzu - the writer of the Art of War. Taught that the Point of War is to Overcome it by Alternative Methods (some of which people would consider to be morally reprehensible)

Without a doubt, the most peaceful people in history, are people who lived their life in a way that was pleasing unto God. Many people may sound peaceful, who are actually not having peace at all. But I can guarantee you that any person who makes the attempt to live their life in a way that pleases God, may enjoy a peaceful life. Jesus told us in John 14:27: "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you." And we also read in Phil. 4:7: "And the peace of God which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Atheists tend to be the most peaceful. While there have been some atheists who have done bad things, you never hear someone killing in the name of atheism. Atheists represent a far lower percentage of the prison population than in general society.
