No, you don't have to be in top physical shape to join. That's what basic training is for. My husband joined weighing 275 lbs. By time he graduated basic he weighed 220 lbs. The army is trying to recruite so many people right now that I don't think they reject any one. As for the pay. They get paide bi weekly (every 2 weeks)

Welllll. I would love to see you in basic combat training in bad shape. When I was in basic, there was this private named W. W was about 230 pounds, he was 192 when he left. The drills starved him everyday and singled him out for smoking session everyday. The good news is that he left like 40 pounds, bad news is that he had shin splints, tore muscles. etc. Basically, his life was hell. So...do show up out of shape and chubby and the basic training diet will help you lose those extra pounds. If you do meet all the height and weight requirements, your recruiter will take you to the MEPS. They will determine if you are medically , mentally, and legally fit to be in the military. And if you don't get rejected, you can join the military. Yes, you do get paid, what kind of question is that?

It is best to try and get in shape before joining. You can check online to see height and weight requirements.
You get paid every 2 weeks on the 1st and 15th. Not sure if they still have the option of being paid once a month.
If you meet all requirements there shouldn't be any reason not to accept you. In some cases if you do not meet requirements you can get a waiver.

You have to be in reasonable shape to survive boot camp. A little bit of chub is okay, but you will lose it before you are finished.
Lots of ways to be rejected by the military. Medical issues are probably highest on the list.
You get paid a salary like any other salary job. It is based on your pay grade (rate/rank) and it is paid bi-monthly.

there are minimum weight and fitness standards you must meet before you can enlist, yes.
There are other ways to be disqualified for military service.. legal troubles, past felony convictions, inability to get a qualifying score on the ASVAB are just a couple of them.
payday is the 15th and 1st of each month.

go to military.com and check out the weight requirements. Chubby doesn't generally qualify. This is not a social welfare program, its a fighting military and you need to be in shape for it, both mentally and physically. You get paid either twice a month or once a month (your choice).

you get paid on the 1st and 15th of every month.. you shouldn't be disqualified for being chubby. you won't be able to get in if you are severely over weight though.
