Melanin is a natural pigment that gives your skin its natural color. It's produced in cells called melanocytes either in the top layer of the skin( epidermis) or the outer second layer of the skin( dermis). thus melanin is then transported to the surface cells of the skin. usually, melanin is distributed evenly thruout the body.
But sometimes, melanocytes grown together in clusters giving rise to moles.or Nevi. When skin is exposed to sun, melanocytes produce more pigment causing the skin to tan or darken.
Scientists don't know why moles develop or for what purpose they serve if any. Although, they do appear to be determined at birth. Most moles are harmless and don't require special care . But sometimes, people have unsually looking moles, called dysplastic nevi which are more likely to turn cancerous than ordinary moles.
Atypical moles most often occur in the backs of both women and men. And also on the abdomen, chest and legs of women.
Although most moles develop by age 20, they can continue to appear until midlife. There are also certain times in your life when moles are more apt to change; for example, they're likely to become darker, larger and more numerous because of hormonal changes during adolescence and pregnancy and with the use of birth control pills.
Many people have 10-20 moles. altho' the number you have may change thru out life . New moles can appear in mid- adulthood and because moles last about 50 yrs, some moles may disappear as you age.
Treatment for moles is usually unncessary. However. a mole can be removed for cosmetic reason. So if you remove your mole it , won't reappear. If it does, you need to see the doctor promptly. He might need to do a biopsy or tissue sample of the mole. If the mole is found to be cancerous, the entire mole plus a margin of normal tissue around it needs to be removed of course by the doctor. So it's not a very good idea to attempt to remove it on your own.

Moles are basically raised freckles, which as someone said are caused by a build of melanin. Melanin is what gives color to our skin and reacts to the sunlight by darkening.
As for removing one. Have it done by a doctor, it's generally not major surgery. If you mole happens to be cancerous, which is possible if the mole is new or has suddenly grown or changed, by removing it you are risking spreading the cancer. This is not a do it yourself job. If you don't like your mole simply go to the doc and have it removed. I have actually caught a mole on something and it riped most of the way off. It hurt pretty bad and it bleed a lot and didn't want to stop bleeding. So either live with it or see your doc.

a mole is atached to your skin, you can't pull it off, but you can have it removed. I have a mole on my arm, kinda on the back side of my wrist. It is small, and no one notices it, its a birth mark, and i kinda like it there.

A mole is just a bundle of melanin, which is what gives your skin color. I think if you pull it off, it will hurt. probably won't hurt your skin unless it scars.
